Re: Small Press Question
Cheekychook's advice is great, so that's a good place to start. As for the 2013 publishing date, that's quite reasonable--it's only 18 months away, which is a normal time between signing and publication date. I've fielded similar questions about the time from some of our authors, since we always tak...

Re: What superpower would you want?
I think bcomet's got it--healing ability would be excellent. I've played around with the down-sides of superpowers in MINDER and the other Ganzfield books, and there are some serious safety issues with telekinesis. I'd worry about paradoxes and destruction of the space-time continuum with time trave...

Re: Query: YA Victorian Fantasy
I'm giving away a query critique as one of the prizes at The Disgruntled Bear this week. Please stop by if you're interested in an in-depth, blunt critique on your query letter or first pages. http://thedisgruntledbear.blogspot.com/ ... day-1.html

Re: PREDICT THE NEXT BIG YA GENRE
Trust me. The next big trend is psychic abilities, like in Wake and Minder. It doesn't take someone with precognition to know that telepaths are the new vampires.

Re: Y'all come enter my contest!
Just come up with a funny premise or pun for a book or movie. A log-line is usually a one-sentence "movie poster" line that captures the essence of the work. EXAMPLE: JAWS 2: Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water. If your WIP is especially funny, use that. Otherwise, yo...

I'll enter yours if you'll enter mine!
There's a write-a-funny-log-line contest this week at:
http://thedisgruntledbear.blogspot.com/ ... -line.html
The prizes include a query critique or a first-pages critique (or cookies!), so you can get some one-on-one feedback. Or eat cookies.

Young Adult Language
There are a few things that distinguish "Young Adult" (YA) books from other books. First, the MC is a teenager. The rule here is that kids read up, so 12-year-olds will read about a 16-year-old MC more often than the reverse. The other distinctions are sex and language. Usually, there's no...

Second chances
Hi Nathan, Quick question/grovel. I made a rookie mistake and queried too early; you passed on my partial in July. I took your notes to heart, and eight drafts, two writer's workshops, and three critique partners later, I have a MUCH stronger book. Any chance I can re-query you, or am I out of luck?...
