HENNY ON THE COUCH (Grand Central 3/27/12) It's a novel about an artist who's not making art--alternating between three time periods in her life. It's a (mostly) New York story and I like New York. Plus, the characters are imperfect and nuanced.
Oh yeah, and this: I wrote it.

How do authors decide which part of novel to read at reading
My debut novel HENNY ON THE COUCH comes out in a few weeks and I'm having trouble figuring out what to read at readings. My novel moves between three pivotal time periods in one woman's life (meaning 3 arcs, as well) and I'm not sure if I should give short bits from each time period--or read only th...

Print Runs
Can you discuss print runs? Do pre-sales help? When are they determined? I have a debut novel coming out and I don't know much about this topic.

Sophomore Slump (Guest Blog Post?)
Confession: I have not started my next project. I want to start my next project. I am trying to start my next project. I am confident I will at some point start my next project ... but, alas, I have not started my next project. Some would say this is a time of grappling and inquiry and in fact it is...

Whose story is it?
As writers, the world is our oyster. As family members -- not so much. What we say impacts the people we love. Even if it's not about them per se. Hypothetical situation. You're a woman. You have interests. You love your husband. Your kids. The city where you live. Hip hop. Romantic comedies. You we...

Foreign Rights? Oui, oui.
Question for Nathan or anyone who has had experience with foreign rights. My agent's assistant emailed and asked me to send first 50 pages of my sold manuscript because their co-agent is going to frankfurt and will try to sell foreign rights. I am working on revisions with my editor and everything i...

Re: Got the contract, did the revisions ... and editor quits
I haven't been on the forums lately, so imagine my surprise by the kind words of others. Thanks for liking my oreo infatuation. (Note the fat part) Seriously, I love the love. Especially since t's Sunday night and I made me no art this weekend. (now there's a sentence) Translation: I'm cranky. Alas,...
