Re: THE WIND CRIES MARY YA Modern historical
Sounds interesting. I don't usually read YA but I might consider this one with the high hopes of some 70s music, fashion and lifestyle thrown in :) I am approaching you to represent my YA road-trip/ drama THE WIND CRIES MARY because I read that you are drawn to novels that deal with personal journey...

Re: Query - Moonlight Falters (new version at post 4)
I'm terrible at queries but I've had a go. Dear Agent: On the sixth anniversary of his wife’s death, attorney Adam Wesley glimpses a seven-foot-tall woman’s hair shine like a polished silver plate in the moonlight. I'd agree with the other comments, with the height description in gets complicated Wh...

Re: Query Gyllada's Riddle
How old is Mags? Is she a time traveler? I am having a problem with Henri being her best friend and almost step father. My thought is that if he is her best friend and he starts dating and then decides to marry her mother, she should be kind of irritated. I know I would be very ticked off if my bes...

Re: Query Gyllada's Riddle
Thanks for the comments. Jacob is quite central. Mags and Henri are a long formed evil kicking partnership. They meet Jacob on arrival to the village and he then becomes a main character and possible love attraction for Mags. And he ends up saving the day! So bearing that in mind, should I still lea...

Re: Query - God from the Machine
Dear Agent, It’s the future and Ray Thomas is a man obsessed with the ideas of the past. His parents were more interested in space adventures and nano-science than spending time as a family, so Ray retreated into forgotten texts, preferring the search for philosophical truths over interacting with ...

Query Gyllada's Riddle
I hate queries. This is my very first attempt, probably riddled with mistakes but I'd love a little feedback before I work on it too much. I've tried to make it slightly comedic, to follow the tone of the WIP. Is it working at all? Does it say enough about the story? Should I just rip it up and star...

Excerpt from Gyllada's Riddle
This is my first posting of material from my new WIP and as a new genre for me I am struggling. Originally my story started much later and caught up with Mags after this meeting, when the 'action' starts but I've decided to go back and start earlier. Not sure if it is working... It is an (adult) par...

Re: Do You Use LinkedIn?
I use Linked in for my 'real' job.
Currently I am on a sabbatical as a dive instructor but when I used to work in corporate law there was a really good forum for posting very technical questions and getting great feedback in hours.

Re: Super Sad True Agent Story
Let me first say that I don't know the reason I have been blanked by this agent, there may well be valid reasons, they just haven't been communicated to me. That said, it's over three months since the agent promised to have a decision in a week, and at this stage I'm not expecting to hear back at a...
Re: Pen names
Mine is German. Actually, my married name and my maiden name are both German and it's got the weird ie ei spelling issue plus it sounds like someone declaring war when they say it. Or like they trying to cough something up. A hairball maybe. I tried to picture myself at a book signing and having 30...
Re: Pen names
I would consider writing in a pen name but only as there is already a writer (underground/alternative music reviewer) that has my maiden name as well as a photographer who has stolen my ideal website and appears to photograph dead animal carcasses. I could use my married name but it is long and tric...

Re: Best time to mention?
I didn't read what Nathan said, but generally adults don't mention their age or at least I wouldn't.

Re: Querying UK Agents?
Many Uk agents are on Query Tracker - just use the country filter. Not all but I guess those that are will be most likely to be internet savvy and accept e-queries.Sleeping Beauty wrote: How I wish the UK and Ireland had an equivalent to America's Query Tracker!
