I have an account! I'm not super active (just don't have time) but I've enjoyed poking around.

Re: MG: Under Sentinel Guard - Which Query Do You Like?

I actually liked the first query better. It made me smile and interested. I think the danger with the second query is that there's so many new terms in one space. I found my head spinning as I was trying to take in all the details of the world. Here are some comments about the first query option: Qu...

Re: YA fantasy: Liar's Light

Overall this is quite good! There were just a few things that made me pause. Dear AGENT, After [some connection to agent], I am submitting a query for my young adult fantasy novel, LIAR’S LIGHT, complete at 81,000 words. Twelve-year-old Calisson is quiet. It helps when she picks pockets. I don't see...

First attempt at a one page synopsis for this work. Please tear it up! :) BLESSINGS In a kingdom where faeries bless humans with supernatural abilities, Melle is a girl with no blessings and Velimir is a prince with too many. Velimir is blessed by the faerie king, a being who contains the center of ...

Re: MG: Pirate of Vallenta

Hello! I'm not a query expert, but here are some things I noticed reading through: Dear [Agent]: When fourteen-year-old pirate Lesath’s first mission gets her locked in the castle dungeon by royal assistant Sir Reginald, she starts to seriously consider a career change. First, of course, she’ll have...

Re: what is your aim of writing??

To express thoughts, to relax, to tell a story.

and maybe sometimes to get revenge or enact my own sense of justice. >_>

Re: You know you've spent too much time editing when...

You know you've been editing too long when your friend is talking to you, but your eyes have glazed over because you are rethinking the last passage you had been working on, and you finally know how to rewrite that problem sentence.

Re: Teenage Writers?

I'm still a teenager till October, so... *raises hand* I started seriously writing in highschool, and finished my first ms the summer before starting college. I edited the ms over freshman year, while also writing a second ms (unrelated to the first one). I'm a bit unusual, because I write pretty fa...

Re: Ask Nathan

Hey Nathan, I just got back from reading your post about how to respond to a partial request, and I have a follow-up question. The two requests I've received did not involve an email partial (one was snail mail, the other had a particular website to submit to). So should I respond with some sort of ...

Re: Rate your WiP Titles!

Overall favorites: Ronnie for Real, Delilah Wakes . The sound of the R's in Ronnie/Real is catchy, and Delilah Wakes makes me curious. THE TICK-TOCK HEARTS - I like it, pretty much for the same reason I like Ronnie for Real . The T's are catchy, and tick-tock is an unusual way to describe hearts, so...

Favorite Part of Writing

What part of the writing process is your favorite? I mostly mean in the stages of writing itself, not what you are writing (i.e. action scenes vs. dialog). For instance, I enjoy editing more than I enjoy writing. I like to cut and rewrite, because even though it can be painful I know that I'm gettin...

Re: Writing after a long break...

I like rewriting almost more than I like writing. Rewriting makes me feel like I'm holding my ms over a fire and burning out the bad bits. I normally put on some music and just dive in for hours at a time. I'll surface and move locations (bedroom-->Panera) and do it again. Repeat in my spare time un...

I'll be volunteering at the Southern Women Writer Conference at Berry College in GA. I think it takes place in September. I volunteered last year and had a lot of fun, even though I didn't get to go to many of the events.

Re: A life in Death - YA Fantasy

I feel like this is too long. It should be about 250 words, if I'm remembering correctly. You mentioned being concerned about saying too much/too little. So here are my cut suggestions.... Dear … Magical creatures known as deathlings inhabit the earth; and humans, fearful of their powers and their c...

Re: How'd you come up with that?

For my first manuscript, I had the idea while taking a shower. I think the original thought was, "What if someone couldn't show love?" Which over a long and twisted thought process that lasted several years (during which I thankfully grew up a lot), morphed into a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. ...
