Depends on the agent. Some take unfinished novels. Also have you had professional editing? Everyone needs it. Have a look at Fiverr. There are great editors (and crap editors btw) and you can select one within your budget.

Definitely publish with publishers, agents and journals that feature your genre. There is a lot of creative writing out there that speaks to experimental prose, fantasy, sci fi etc. p.s. How is your wife getting on without her head?

A literary novel I published was based on a non-fiction article I found in McClean's Magazine (Canadian publication). It intrigued me a lot but I invented the characters, plot development, etc. I just took the bare bones information and went with it.
