Re: How much would you pay for a self-published ebook?
Unless the author is a relative or close friend, I don't buy self-published fiction. For non-fiction, I would have to really want that topic.

Re: Are dialogue tags really that bad?
Run an experiment: take a chapter of your writing and remove all dialogue tags and adverbs. Re-read that chapter. I promise you'll never go back.

Re: Qualified to Write???
Here's the "qualifications paragraph" from my upcoming query letter: "I have an MFA in screenwriting from UCLA and am a member of the Independent Writers Caucus of the Writers Guild of America, West. My one published novel is IN THE FACE (Iota, October 2008). My mother bought several....

Re: Are dialogue tags really that bad?
I find them hideous, but carry on. I have plenty of great books to read from award-winning writers that don't use them.

Kill them! Kill them all! They are the writer editorializing. Get out of your story. It's none of your business.

Re: TWILIGHT - thoughts?
Sorry Lorelei, but "the lady doth protest too much, methinks." Hey, I'm old, I've read almost nothing but literary fiction for twenty years, I've got the graduate degree in writing, and I don't like Ms. Meyer's work. As a reader I don't like poor writing, I don't like average writing, and...

Sorry, some of us envy Doris Lessing and would quit writing tomorrow if they were guaranteed Ms. Meyer's career.

Re: TWILIGHT - thoughts?
Vampires have always equalled the sexual urge, since they were invented. I'd say Anne Rice did much to make them sexy in the common vernacular. In another generation, someone else will trot out a vampire book that will attract the attention of young people. They will swoon, and their parents will ro...

Re: Qualified to Write???
When I started writing I completely sucked. Of course, I was nine years old, so I cut myself some slack. I finished my first (awful) novel when I was nineteen. The first one that wasn't completely terrible was number five. Number seven landed the first agent. The first one published was number twelv...

I think if money came your way as a result of your writing, you should mention it. Sounds good to me.
