Re: National Novel Writing MAY
YES! It's funny because I had every intention of stealing it too! :) You got there before me, Sommer! I am totally in, hopefully for 30k too! 05/01: 809 05/02: 1053 05/03: 715 05/04: 1792 05/05: 460 05/06: 1077 05/07: 0 --- because 7 non-stop hours of intense debates on strikes, government offers an...

Re: Hours per Week?
Mine varies a lot depending on school (and motivation, these days). I've put 20-25 hours in writing before, but in the last month I do more 5-10. It's been a rough patch. I'm finally coming out of it. ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)

Re: Novels With Multiple Plot Lines
I'd pick Larry Brooks' first. You'll have to work through the first section, where he keeps repeating how awesome what you'll learn is without, y'know, explaining what you'll learn. But when he starts with the craft advice? It is incredible, and well worth the wait. I can't recommend enough going ba...

Re: Novels With Multiple Plot Lines
Whoo, that's great! And I completely missed that thread when it popped up the first time (not a surprise, considering it was smack in the middle of NaNo). Another piece of advice for other outlines/rewrites/next book? I do multiple plotlines ALL the time, or near enough. Try to get your hands on wri...

Re: Fifty Shades of Grey: what do you think?
1) I don't think it is fair to interpret what Nathan might've wanted or done. We don't know. 2) Yes, he has always encouraged discussion of controversial topic. The key term here is discussion. Rachel's second post is not a discussion, it is an all-out, vitriolic bashing of erotica writers. In a civ...

Re: Fifty Shades of Grey: what do you think?
OK. I've watched this thread without posting since it was born. And until now I had nothing to add to what either Margo or cheeky had said. Now I do, because we're not talking of the original topic anymore, but also of what is acceptable on these boards. And if we're to trace a line, then I feel the...

Re: When is it Too Far?
Perhaps this got off topic and expanded to overall books or stories where the character is pushed too far. But I was there for our initial discussion about pushing your character to their limits and questioning if they did something SO entirely out of character, then are they really the characters ...

Re: When is it Too Far?
The problem, I think, is that there is no such lines. Or rather, the line is at a different point with every reader. If you push your characters hard, there'll always be someone to think that was too far. Do what feels right for your story, what creates a high-tension, page-turning tale. And trust y...

Re: Most Anticipated 2012 Releases
I learned two weeks ago that Brad Beaulieu's second novel, The Straits of Galahesh came out in April. I loved the first tome and while I have very limited reading time these days, this goes straight to the top of the pile. ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)
EDIT: And Angelfall 2, of course. Need More Angelfall.

Re: Conflicting Desires
I asked, specifically, if it could come with the first plot point, and the answer was "it would be better before that". Rereading Story Engineering , I can understand why. The first quarter of your novel is where you take the time to set up all these things, and if you wait for the FPP, th...

Re: Live - BransforumFest 2012
I am in a bus, heading home to Qc, totalling 9 hours of sleep for the last two days, all of which were done this last night. And the closer I get to Qc, the more I miss you guys. Might have to do with the awesome week we had, and the fact my boss wants me to work 4 pm - 11 pm tonight. And tomorrow. ...

Re: How do you write
I write everywhere I can, whenever I can, with music if possible. I don't need to be alone (although if others are talking, I will put headphones on) and the noise level doesn't really affect me unless I'm able to decipher a conversation and it's interesting. In short, I'm very flexible about this. ...

Re: Live - BransforumFest 2012
Day 1, and I have also arrived! I can't say we had any crazy experience like Sommer (except meeting Sommer, which is its own brand of crazy and awesome!) I do feel completely underdressed in my jeans and penguin-with-a-heart hoodie. And just walking around the Luxor I've counted 3 Starbucks, which b...

Re: National Novel Writing FEBRUARY 2012
AMS - Oh, I'd call it a win, too. What you did there is lots of work! And Quill, ditto, 23k is great. Margo -- thanks! I've been putting most of my free time into making sure I'd be ready for the Vegas exchance, but sadly commenting words doesn't make my total go up. At least all those hours are wri...

Re: Of the characters you've written, who is your favorite?
I fall in love with all my villains. I just realized I've made them all male...and insane to one degree or another. 1. Not surprised AT ALL. 2. Glad to know I'm not the only one with a thing for villains. He's a RP-derived enchanter. The charming, sweet-talking, give-me-what-I-want-or-I'll-force-yo...
