Re: BIG NEWS: Publishers Weekly and self-pub!
UPDATE: Commenters on the PW site have squawked about the very same things the Konrath writer and commenters mentioned. In response, later today PW is supposed to have a FAQ article come out to address some of the protests/issues. This oughtta be interesting...!

Re: BIG NEWS: Publishers Weekly and self-pub!
Wow, thanks guys. My writerly curiosity was tweaked/piqued, but I guess I should always listen to my cynical side. ;) Yeah, ugh, $149! If PW was really serious and concerned, they wouldn't charge so much.... Some key, interesting points made by commenters on Konrath's article: 1. If your book is qua...

BIG NEWS: Publishers Weekly and self-pub!
Hi Fellow Writers, Big News on the publishing scene: Publisher's Weekly has made a new announcement regarding those who have gone the self-publication route. PW has now decided to include self-pubbed/POD books: "We have decided to embrace the self-publishing phenomenon in a similar spirit."...

Re: Ask Nathan
Thanks for the thoughts! I know, as a writer I absolutely LOVE the ease of email submissions. I hardly ever do hard submissions anymore. Funnily enough, your agency and YOUR specific name is on the website as being a participating agent! It says: "Requesting the services of an agent is an optio...

Re: Ask Nathan
Hi Nathan, I just became aware of a service by Bowker's, called Bowker Manuscript Submissions. Apparently with this service, if you as a writer join and pay $99, for six months Bowkers will post your proposal (a query, I assume) and sample writing, and make them available for agents and editors on t...

Re: B&N For Sale?
Aw, just color me nostalgic or something, but reputation or no (squeezing out the Mom and Pop local bookstores, I assume), I just HATE to see bookstores go under. Any of 'em. It mean...it's books! It's like a really expensive library, and is so fun to see so many spines and words and writers' souls ...

Re: Do you have a new blog post?
Yep, I just veered off from my normal blog post where I edit first-pagers, and posted a summary on:
Print on Demand books! To be specific, Amazon's Create Space.
I did a summary, since I have been researching it to use on one of my novels (just one; I plan for traditional publishing for the rest).

Re: Series Novels: Why should the first one have to stand alone?
I think the key is--if things have been tied up nicely that relate to book one . Not ALL the questions answered, but the ones that matter. Some progress , as cheekychook mentioned. I have a series of five books (two written) that is more compartmentalized, since each is from the viewpoint of one of ...

Re: 18 Days Until MOCKINGJAY!!!
Ha, I am not geeking out or going to a midnight release, but I have pre-ordered Mockingjay from Amazon, and BOY, am I looking forward to it! I don't usually buy books (am a library gal aka cheapskate) so you know I have to like something to actually spend $$$$ on a book. I was delighted to go to the...

Re: Social Networking - does it really work?
Very cool subject! I've been thinking a lot about this too, lately. Right on--I agree with maybegeinus: "Don't use it because you want to sell books - use it because you want to meet people. That's how it works" And I agree with Quill, that blogging is very time-consuming--even tho I do it...
