Re: Nominate Your First Page for a Critique on the Blog
Title--Shades of Gray: A Jude Magdalyn Novel Genre--Urban Fantasy The moment I sat at the head of the table and took a good, long look at the three people making up this private party, I knew that taking this particular job had been a mistake. They all looked like nice, normal, sane people. I’d lear...

Re: Bestsellers that don't live up to the hype
I'll admit, I'm like a book junkie. Even when a book is not great, a disappointment, what have you, I still tend to enjoy it. That being said, I just finished Laurell K. Hamilton's Bullet, and I have no problem saying that when I finished it, I went, "Eh?" Part of that is the simple fact t...

Re: Query: Shades of Gray: A Jude Magdalyn Novel
Thanks to lachrymal for your suggestions. Taking that into account, I've done a little chopping and a little rewording. Jude Magdalyn Henries has what some--okay, many--would call an unconventional life. Orphaned at birth, raised by nuns, teenage runaway, fake tarot card reader--there is very little...

Re: Query: Shades of Gray: A Jude Magdalyn Novel
Thanks so much for your thoughts. I'm always unsure on length, just because I've seen novels (by the same writer) range from less than 300 to almost 500. I'll also keep the synopsis/query issue in mind; again, different agents, different ideas. Again, thanks so much.

Re: Query for On The Fringe
My thoughts in red. Dear Literary Agent, Lucy is the typical post graduate dreaming of the perfect job as a historian. After applying at museums, community colleges, fast food restaurants, and as body guard for Britney Spears, Can you actually do that? And why would someone with a degree in history ...

Re: Do you tell readers about sensitive subjects in MS?
I'm always under the assumption, when I pick up certain books, that there's going to be a certain level of sex and/or violence. I read a lot of Urban Fantasy, so I expect there to be blood. I also read a lot of Romance, so I expect there to be sex. It would be different if I picked up a YA novel; I ...

Excerpt--Shades of Gray: A Jude Magdalyn Novel
This is (roughly) the first page of my finished work, Shades of Gray: A Jude Magdalyn Novel. I've already sent it through a test run of sorts via WeBook's Page to Fame, and now I'm looking for a broader audience. Thoughts and (helpful) criticism are much appreciated. The moment I sat at the head of ...

Query: Shades of Gray: A Jude Magdalyn Novel
Dear Specific Agent, Jude Magdalyn Henries has what some--okay, many--would call an unconventional life. Orphaned at birth, raised by nuns, teenage runaway, fake tarot card reader--there is very little about Jude that’s normal. Jude plays hard, which means she has to work at least semi-hard, but whe...

Re: Okay, be honest…how crappy is your first draft?
My very first finished novel...wow. I don't think I did anything but finish it. I was just thrilled with that. I started writing something along the same lines, decided both were crap, and stopped writing for about...I think two years. Didn't pick up a pen, sit at the computer, nothing. I just read-...
