Re: Rejection Stats

This thread is a huge comfort to me, so i'm jumping in. Queries sent out:15 Requests for partial:0 Requests for full:0 Rejections: 4, two personalized-one with a request to send other work, two no-responses in alloted time. It's still early in the game, right? I'm trying to focus on my other WIP's a...

Re: Ask Nathan

I posted this over in another part of the sorums and realized that you were probably the better person to ask, so here goes. I keep a really detailed list of agents I want to query, how they accept queries, what they want, etc. I had an agent that I had written down to paper queries, not email. I se...

I Did Something Stupid- need advice

Hi all. So I keep a really detailed list of agents I want to query, how they accept queries, what they wasnt, etc. I had an agent that I had written down to paper queries, not email. I sent it off and it's been three weeks. I went to check her turnaround time today and noticed her website said email...

Re: Hang A Shining Star- contemporary women's fiction

Thanks again to everyone for all of the encouragement. I'll be sure to post something new, and hopefully better, before the weekend is out.

Supercool- I'm glad you want to read teh book. It encourages me. A lot. :) Let's just hope I can find an agent who feels the same way.

Re: Hang A Shining Star- contemporary women's fiction

Ghost- You've been so immensly helpful. Somtimes I feel like you're writing the hard parts of the query for me :) Despite the fact you haven't read the book, you have a great handle on the plot and the themes, which gives me a lot of hope. I'm at least communicating those, however poorly I might be ...

Re: Query for Thriller - Fresh Meat, Notes to Commenters

I agree with thte commoent that it would be a good idea to start with the MC, so we know clearly who we're following from the start. Other than that, I love the concept. I think it sounds like a fascinating read. The only other suggestion I have is maybe vary your sentance length. Read the query out...

Re: Hang A Shining Star- contemporary women's fiction

Right, I took some of your advice and changed things up a little. I tried to make the query a little tighter, I'm hoping it worked. I'll look forward to all of your wonderful feedback. You have all been great. Dear Agent, Barbara never meant to ruin Christmas for her family. The morning of her famil...

Re: I'm A Nobody, YA Fantasy

I completely agree, I'd like to see how this is unique. I'd also like to see a little more detail. What happens to the classmate he follows? I have to ask, is it more common to be able to walk through secutiry systems than it appears to him? Is this a widespread talent? As for the magival world run ...

Re: Hang A Shining Star- contemporary women's fiction

I can't tell you all how much help you've been so far! I'm taking your suggestions into consideration and I'll be posting a revised query sometime this afternoon, with any luck. Something I'd love to point out, so far, you've all gotten the essence of the story. You've been massively encouraging, an...

Re: Writing yourself into a corner...

Every time I write myself into a corner I stop where I'm at, put an asterisk or two at that spot and then skip forward to action in the future and keep writing. I think sometimes that's what really keeps me going. As long as I'm writng, the part I can't figure out will work itself out. You might eve...

Re: Hang A Shining Star- contemporary women's fiction

Okay, less clunky, more fun. Let's try again. Dear Agent, Barbara never meant to ruin Christmas for her family. The morning of her family’s Christmas party she swore things were going to be different. But her cousin’s new doll is melting in the fireplace, her grandmother is in tears and all Barbara ...

Alright, I took the advice you gave me and came up with something a little different. I like it, but I'm terrified it's too long. Any help you can give me would be spectacular. Thanks again. Dear Agent, Barbara never meant to ruin Christmas for her family. The morning of her family’s Christmas party...

Re: Hang A Shining Star- contemporary women's fiction

Hi! Thanks for the fantastic feedback. I've been working on this thing for ages, and I feel like this is the most constructive criticisn I've received so far. I really appreciate it. I'll be back soon with a revision, and an attempt to make the letter sing. And you're right, the book takes place dur...

Re: Bestsellers that don't live up to the hype

Oh, i'm joining in! I feel bad, because I'm with the Davinci Code haters. I will say this, I think it's well written. I like the concept. What drove me crazy was all through the book I could hear Dan Brown's smug voice saying "I did so much research. I am so witty and intelligent. Wasn't that p...

Re: Which book have you read the most number of times?

I suddenly feel like a real dork. My top three favorite novels I've reread in double digits. I think I'm on 13 for Gone with the Wind, I know I've read Pride and Prejudice at least 15 times and I've lost count on The Count of Monte Cristo. Suffice to say i had to buy a new copy of it because the old...
