Congratulations on finishing your first draft, khanes!
I love all the great advice here, especially the strategies for getting a little distance before tackling post-beta-reading revisions. I think I will write short fiction when I'm at that stage. We'll see. Have to finish the first draft first!

Re: Creating an author web site
If I understand correctly, you do not want to blog? So you are looking to build a static web site with your author and book info. That's cool. First, I would second what polymath said about talking to a web design professional. That is a really excellent idea if you aren't sure what you're getting i...

Re: Procrastination vs. Writer's Block
So much good advice on this thread! Re: "the perfect is the enemy of the good" -- I first heard this phrase from someone I thought was AWESOME! When she said it, I thought something along the lines of, "Hmmm, so not trying for perfect can lead to awesome . Noted." It helps with t...

Re: Okay, be honest…how crappy is your first draft?
I thought of this thread today while I was writing. I wrote a lot of words for one day (for me), and while I was writing I would sometimes pause and think, "Oh no, what if this is no good at all?" As, you know, usual. Normally, I just ignore that thought and keep writing. But it's great to...

Re: Okay, be honest…how crappy is your first draft?
My WIP is pretty unreadable at this point, with lots of work to do on the next draft. (And the next, and the draft after that . . .) I don't care how bad a first draft is because for me its just the most bare essentials of the story. A first draft is not meant to be the final draft. So any mistakes ...

How sweet and funny. I love his attitude: taking a negative experience and turning it into something positive. I hope his video boosts his book sales!

Re: Flashbacks (writing them, not having them)
I like flashbacks, as a reader (when they're done well, of course -- just like everything else, even prologues). ;) This I love: In some cases two characters will have recollections of the same past occurrence and you'll get to see how differently two people experience the same event. Sounds like a ...

Re: The Introduction Thread
Hi everyone! I've followed Nathan's blog for some time now, and I thought I'd give the forums a try! My WIP is a science fantasy novel, and I have a sci-fi outlined to work on next. I was all ready to go with the sci-fi when the idea for the science fantasy WIP took hold and would not let go. So I s...
