Re: Addiction. I has it.

I don't eat while I write, thank goodness. (I eat enough while I'm not writing - and I really can't resist chips). But I do bring up a delicious cup of tea, and then when I go to drink it, it's already gone. Yes, I drink it without noticing, wasting it. Bah. I hate it. Related but not an addiction,...

Oh, I'd second this one too. Except I'd change paper and pencil for a netbook. And add in "anywhere in the world". :)

What's Your Ultimate Writing Dream?

I dream of one day seeing my book in airports or grocery stores.

What's your ultimate writing dream, however far-fetched?

Re: I just found out Chick Lit is dead?

Yep, it looks like the term has died and so have the pink covers - so chick lit is harder to find, masquerading under the larger women's fiction banner. The only exception is for popular series' that are already running. They can keep their pink and their "chick lit" title!

Re: Blogs... bah! Any advice?

Thanks everyone! I actually renewed my blogging motivation, and got back into it again! Sierra, I actually am blogging for myself, not to gain an audience. I was also just hoping for one on the side. For now, I've decided to follow a sort of natural progression, and gain followers as I can but not m...

I don't, sorry. Though, I did once know a girl who was about 12 who did that constantly. Out loud. I doubt she was very popular in school. . .

Re: PREDICT THE NEXT BIG YA GENRE

Here's hoping genre for young adults is dead; sex and alienation needs a comeback! I know I'm resurrecting this thread from the dead, but I just caught up with my old bookmarks and actually laughed out loud at this quote. Steve, it looks like you don't read much of the new YA these days! Sex (of th...

Re: Contacting an agent after submitting a full

Anymore advice for another requested full? I sent it at the end of May. Mid-July, I sent a follow-up email, just a "Checking to see if you got my full" sort of thing. I got an automatic response from the agent saying she was away that day, but nothing else since then. I figured she must ha...

I just found this thread and I love it. It's nice to see the real numbers of people going through the same process I am! I've been querying off and on since the end of May, and here's my progress: Genre: Young Adult Urban Fantasy (no vamps, fairies, angels....) Queries Sent: 30 Requests for Partials...

Re: This One's For the Girls: Lies Books Tell Us About Love

Your student wanted her love life to be like Pride and Prejudice? I mean, Mr. Darcy is a dreamboat by the end, but for the first part (and dare I say, large majority) of the book, he's kind of a dick. I think part of the reason that fictional love stories never match up to real life is that it's eas...

Re: Are you more likely to buy a book that won an award?

Nope, not really. The adult award-winners are usually "literary", and I generally only read "commercial" (and non-fic). As for the YA books I read, I may notice an award, but I wouldn't pick it up because of it. The only possible exception would be genre-based awards, like the RT...

Re: How many books do you read per week (or month)?

Usually 6 is a lower-average month, 12 is a higher-average month. I tend to get slowed down when I'm reading more non-fic, and sped up when I'm reading more Regency romance (because generally I can't put them down until the couple is together....).
