Re: Writing Multi-Lingual Characters
So my WIP is based in an alternate WWII setting. I have multilingual characters who speak English for the most part but drop in words from their own language like mes amis or my favourite line "One dragon flambé!" Then I have whole chapters - basically the bad guys - in German, here I've n...

Isn't that the concept of films like 13 going on 30, Big and any of the countless Freaky Friday clones?

Re: Funniest book you've read?
Terry Pratchett - Discworld series. Making Money is his best. He's not just funny, he's brilliant. For comics (since you mentioned Larsen), I thought the early Dilbert were hilarious. Also, Calvin and Hobbes. Alot of people like Dave Barry and Sedaris as humorists, but I haven't read them. If you f...

Re: What are you reading now?
I've just bought Spells: A new kind of faerie tale by Aprilynne Pike.
Have started The Treasure of Khan by Clive Cussler and will finish that at some point as well.
Then I want to read the rest of the Temaraire books by Naomi Novak, I've only read the first one.

Re: Do you write 'linearly'?
I write in scenes and then those scenes start to form the basis of the plot. Usually the whole thing starts with the MC or MCs and a pivotal moment in the book. For example in my current WIP I first worked on the moment when George meets the Dragon and names him Spitfire. The scene I currently have ...

Re: The Absentee Parent Conundrum in Children's Lit
In my WP. I have an absent parent. However, they are replaced by other autority figures in the MCs life. Dad is off fighting in WWII, Mum is doing some strange, clandestine work with the MCs Uncle and then the MC becomes one of the most important factors in winning the war. Mum then has to decide to...

Re: How'd you come up with that?
I daydream or dream 'scenes' I can quite clearly see them in my mind much like other people would view something on the TV or a movie. I have lots of them stored away and have new ones quite often. The difficult bit is to then put them onto paper so that the two match. Then when I have enough scenes...

Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self.

Re: Bestsellers that don't live up to the hype
Angels and Demons - Published 2000
Da Vinci Code - Published 2003
Which book is a rewrite of which? So many people read the Da Vinci code first, I'm so glad I read them them in the correct order.
Deception point is his best book and the Lost Symbol by far his worst.

Re: How to categorize my work???
Based on that how would you categorise the movie (yeah I know it's a not a novel but it's the first thing example that came to mind) Message in a Bottle. That's Romance, possibly a Romantic Tragedy. Actually speaking of which what is Romeo and Juliet then? The greatest love story ever told (so some ...

Re: Injuries from writing?
Although not injured I do have my own silly problems I write on a laptop while commuting to and from work - the journey is around an hour each way on the train - invariably it's crowded and I sit on the floor cross legged with the laptop, unbelievably, on my lap. Only problem with that is my legs go...
