Re: You're invited to go BookOrTreating

Thanks, Mira & Sommer! Yesterday on the BookOrTreat blog we had how to read tea leaves for writers , today we have Venn diagrams on zombies , and tomorrow we'll be off in yet another direction. In other words, we're definitely open to a wide range of styles & topics for anyone who's interest...

You're invited to go BookOrTreating

Hello, everyone! If you remember me from that ripped-out-heart querying merit badge Nathan featured on his blog a while back , you probably wouldn't be surprised to learn that I like writers/books as well as things of a fun-but-creepy nature. SO, I am very happy to invite you to BookOrTreat.com , a ...

Re: Have you ever checked the keywords?

I probably should've realized something like this would happen before posting about writers + alcohol, but I'm now the 4th Google hit for "seeing pink elephants while intoxicated."

Score. That'll look amazing on my resume.

Re: Manuscript Format

Underlines replacing italics, double hyphens instead of em dashes, and double word spaces between sentences are basically relics from the days of typewriter text. Those were the workarounds because you didn't have the option to do it correctly. Of course you should always follow submission guideline...

Every 80s cartoon series was required to have some type of deeply disturbing aspect. Every. Single. One.

The Muppets - The Swedish chef chasing the chicken with a butcher knife or making donuts by throwing dough in the air and shooting a hole in it with a gun! One of the very first versions of The Muppet Show (the first with the chef, actually) was called The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence . I have a s...

Re: Do you have a new blog post?

Still have no intention of flooding this thread with my 5-a-week updates, but it's been a little quiet in here and today's a special post: If you've ever submitted a query to Query Shark, you can now claim the "shark bait" merit badge . And as long as I'm posting, yesterday was the "n...

I like the first versions of each better, but it looks like you're over-punctuating and there's some confusion in the use of single and double quotes. Here's how I'd set some of the punctuation (though anyone's free to slap me down with their preferred style guide if they'd like). “’Why not take the...

Have you tried combining your first/middle initials in various ways with your last name? (Not recommended for people with unfortunate names such as Susan Lutz or Fred Uckermann.)

Re: Buying A Domain and Setting Up Professional E-mail

No fear, it's really not that hard (or expensive). 1) Make sure the domain name you want is actually available. Do this by using one of the many whois sites . Or just go to Bust A Name and type the domain you want into the "Quick Domain Check" box. (Bust A Name's fun because it's got featu...
