Re: Book trailers: who makes them, $$$, and are they worth it
This was many months ago, so I can't remember all the pertinent details, but I went to see a movie with my husband one night, and, mixed in with the movie trailers, was a book trailer. I can't remember the movie or the book - just that it was well known and the subject matter of both meshed well. Bu...

Re: Comfort books
The Art of Racing in the Rain is one of my favorite re-reads. So is The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo. I got to read that book to my son recently and loved every minute of it.

I recently finished Flash Burnout by L.K. Madigan and Numbers by Rachel Ward. Just picked up All Unquiet Things by Anna Jarzab.

Re: Reading Rate?
It completely depends for me. I have two little kids that suck up energy and brain power. But I can comfortably read two books a week, typically reading before bedtime. I've never 'clocked' myself before, but I would guess I read between thirty to seventy pages per hour, depending on how tired I am.

Re: Recommendations: How to Books on Fiction Writing
One of my absolute favorites is Reading Like a Writer by Francine Prose. Loved it!

Re: How do you know your writing is good enough?
Eight years ago, my writing was not good enough. So I wrote more, read more, and researched the nuts and bolts of writing. Five years ago, my writing was still not good enough. So I wrote more, read more, and researched more. One year ago, my writing still wasn't good enough. So I...you get the idea...

Re: Writer's Block
.... I know the first draft is mostly comprised of bad writing but I just can't move on to the next paragraph if the previous one is crap. I'm the same way, Alicia. I actually usually combine my first and second drafts when I write, so my second draft is more like a polish. Each time I sit down to ...

Re: Writing. What's your favorite part? Your Hardest Lesson?
My favorite part is revising. I spend my entire first draft counting down to when I can turn this ugly, rough, misshapen lump of clay into something with depth and detail. I get all excited just thinking about it. :) So, I guess that means my least favorite part is the first draft (not creation-I cr...

Re: Writer's Block
l don't get blocked any more, not since I learned that the first draft is meant to be shit, so get it written and don't worry about getting it right. When you go back to it later you will know how to fix it. Same here. I don't worry about quality in my early drafts, because that can always be fixed...

Re: Show Don't Tell
Poptart - LOL!! :) There is a simple rule of thumb that you can apply to all of your writing to determine whether you are telling instead of showing. Show = Action If you ask someone to show you how to do something, you aren't expecting a list of steps. You're expecting to see someone perform a task...

Re: Do you write the same genre you read?
Hmm... I guess I kind of do. But there are books I read for pleasure that I just don't write, like sci-fi/fantasy. I love reading it, but I don't write it. That said, I will always read books in the genre of my current WIP for research purposes. But, to me, that's a different kind of reading because...
