Historical is hard because reader enthusiasts for the period of the setting expect 100% accuracy. They know e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g and will delight in telling the world what you have wrong in a review that will be rated poorly. No one fixed occasion - it developed. I never enjoyed creative writing in school, but when I was about 17, I was a keen naturalist and enjoyed writing a guide book to a local nature reserve where I was going to show people around.
