Re: Favorite Lines from Novels

Tolsty Anna Karenina Levin's point of view: after returning to his country home from the big city, having endured a depressing romantic failure, and entering the familiar atmosphere of his study....... > All these traces of his life seemed to clutch him, and to say to him; "No, you're not goin...

Re: Critique Groups vs Online Writing Workshops

I am interested in whether online workshops would be a good thing too, I was checking out a couple of them online at writers digest and they run around $400 or so each. Wonder if they'd be worth it....certainly look interesting! As for the online critique groups, the previous post looks like it migh...

Re: Have we talked about world building?

I definitely would struggle with world building. This is why I've turned to world-destroying, i.e. Dystopia. United States, now Divided. Lots easier to tear down instead of build :)

Re: Query- Isabella Vampirella

I love the idea, sounds like one of the cutest books ever. I like the Y spelling a lot better.

The main thing I noticed about your query was that you didn't name the magical school deep in the forest. I was curious about that.

Re: Hot & Cold!

I feel both ways about every project I work on. However, to me, my projects are just as "practical" as ceramics, at least in the way that my kids will get to check out the work I spent all that time on, and show it to their kids too. I would love to have something creative to look at that ...

Re: First request for a full MS... rejected

Wow. You should be so proud to receive those encouraging words (very strong, encouraging words) although the agent ultimately passed (talk about a huge high then crushing low). The best part....an invitation to send them future work! Huge breakthrough in this industry. Congratulations on achieving t...

Re: Favorite Lines from Novels

“Life, however, was yet in my possession, with all its requirements, and pains, and responsibilities. The burden must be carried; the want provided for; the suffering endured; the responsibility fulfilled. I set out.”
–Charlotte Bronte wrote this line for her novel Jane Eyre

Re: book recommendation?

Clara Callan is an awesome book, by Richard Wright I believe. It's in a format of letters between two sisters. He makes it seem like it would be simple to write a book in this format. It's not.

I liked both sisters and its interesting to try to place which sister has the "better" life.

Re: Which book have you read the most number of times?

The Belgariad. Man I loved those books, and the offshoot books about Belgarath and Polgara.

I loved that sneaky character what was his name...Silk I think.

LOVED THEM. Read them so many times. I couldn't get into the other series' like the Mallorean though.

I like to watch some upbeat videos before I start writing, then I need it to be quiet.

Re: What are you reading now?

It's almost a novel in stories, really, as the characters are constant and the episodes seemingly sequential. It gives a certain integrity to the book as a whole. Yes, I picked that up from a description of the novel I read somewhere. It's similar to "Who do you think you are?" by Alice M...

I am very interested in the rest of the short stories, his writing style really has me hooked. Its funny with the Giller Prize winning books they are all so different.

Re: What are you reading now?

Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures by Vincent Lam, Giller Prize Winner. Reading all the Giller Prize Winners over the next while, every single one I've read has been so unique and really worth the effort to ignore my children to read them. Jesting. Of course I ignore my hubby to read them. The first ...

Re: How do you stop taking rejection personally?

I don't take rejections from agents personally anymore. I do take rejections from writing programs personally though. I mean, I wanted to pay them for goodness sakes, and still wasn't good enough to get accepted. So yeah. Agents reject away, all par for the course. Schools, where I'd like to work on...
