Authonamy?

Hey all, I have not been on in a while because I have been checking out sites like Authonomy, run by Harper Collins. Wondering what you guys think of all these sites designed to put your work on display with the hope that someone will read it and either sign you or support you enough that you can be...

Re: Thistledown: Genesis, Jay's story: Birth

This may be a worthless opinion but it is my first impression all the same. After the first read I had mixed feelings. I kinda like the idea of starting the story with the birth of this alien being. I even like some of the imagery. Your idea of trying to be plot-less is interesting. Learning about l...

Re: Revision number six

Thank you Quill for your colorful persective. A few points you have made make sense so I will look at them. The others I will not comment on. One thing I seem to need to clear up is the British spelling of certain words. I am Canadian. The spelling I use is Canadian rather than American. It will be ...

Re: Revision number six

Thank you Emily J! I am still looking at ways of cutting the manuscript. My thinking is that I will try it as is with a round of agents and then if nothing goes I will cut it and try again with the two books that come out of it. I am also writing another book so I have to see how that fits in with i...

Revision number six

Thanks for the great comments Emily J. I have taken it to heart and shredded 100 words from the query. Please let me know how this new one sounds. Thanks. Dear Great Agent: Hidden away in another dimension lies a spiritual realm entrusted with balancing the forces of light and darkness throughout th...

Re: New Draft - Need your feedback.. Thanks

thanks for the comments Erica75 I am actually not comparing my work with Harry Potter. What I am saying about the long Harry Potter books is that they do not have natural breaks in order to turn them into two book rather than one. Someone had suggested that I split mine in half and I wanted to make ...

Re: New Draft - Need your feedback.. Thanks

I will break down the book for you. The first two chapters set the stage. They are about the MC's father until he is killed at the end of chapter two. Chapter three is the MC Jonathan and MC Anne. After that the chapters alternate for Anne's story and Jonathan's, both happening at the same time but ...

Re: Novel Length

Good info guys. I am not ready to take anything out of my book but will let you know when I make that decision. I have toyed with splitting it into two book. We will see what happens.

Re: Novel Length

From what I've heard and read, Shadow is right. Sadly, a lot of agents will have difficutly considering a YA novel of that length ---> even Meyer admitted she was very lucky to have her debut novel accepted at above 120 000 words. That doesn't mean you shouldn't write something longer than expected...

Novel Length

Hey All, Since I am getting so many comments in the feedback section on the length of my novel I thought it would be good to put the subject up for discussion. My novel is an adventure novel in the literary fiction tradition. After many careful edits it has ended up at 190,000 words. I have noticed ...

New Draft

Hidden away in another dimension of existence lies a spiritual realm entrusted with balancing the forces of light and darkness throughout the universe. This realm is on the verge of being tipped into perpetual darkness and Jonathan Cornwallis, a free spirited nineteen year old born to a prominent ei...

Re: New Draft - Need your feedback.. Thanks

Thanks Quill.
It all fits on a single page Times Roman size 12 font. I am not sure about word count. I thought it just needed to be a single page. Are there parts you think need to change? What parts are not needed? Please let me know.

Thanks,

Jason

Re: New Draft - Need your feedback.. Thanks

Thanks, I see what you are saying. The two areas where I say he is unaware both involve his status as a Dritain but it does sound like he is in the dark about too much and looks like a bit or rewording would be helpful. Any more suggestions would be appreciated. I have thick skin so please do not ho...

Re: Share Your Dreams

Mine are a bit lame I think. For years I use to dream about being strapped in an abandoned house out on a bluff of some sort in a terrible night time thunder shower. Outside, the house was surrounded by flesh eating big foot. In the dream I am fighting them off while rescuing other people trapped in...

Re: Best TV show of all time?

OK so here it goes. Battle Star Galactica - the newer one. Was fantastic. I use to roll over laughing with Seinfeld Liked NYPD Blues in its time. How about The Outer Limits? Some cool stuff there. There was also CSI, (got boring after second season, Law and Order (same with this one), Due South (got...
