Re: Paragraph spacing error in Word

These are the kinds of things that kill the self-pubber... Best thing to do is hire a pro so you can use your precious time for editing and writing. Services are getting cheaper and cheaper. We hire plumbers at $100 an hour to fix a leak so why not buck up $200-$300 to make sure your book looks good...

Re: Multimedia e-books

A recent article on Wired.com about multimedia books. A friend forwarded the link to me and said, "Hey Dude. You know your book was mentioned in this article..."

Readings...In-Person Events

Procrastination seems like a reasonable place to put this. If anyone else has a reading or other in-person event then post the information here so we can check the thread every now and then. You never who you'll meet and what ideas you might pick up. It's good to step away from the computer and ming...

Re: How do you like to use Goodreads?

In the limited time I've been on Goodreads, I have to say I really like it. There are some lasting things you can do to interact with readers and potential readers. Busy is an understatement around here so I haven't done much other than a few reviews and a Giveaway but you can interact in groups, fo...

Re: Quill Publishes on Amazon

Congrats on gettin' her out in the world.

When I was a teacher it felt like I could always be doing something else to help the cause. Now that I'm a father of two and a self publisher I feel like that times ten. It never ends but it's rewarding.

Re: 10 Book-Marketing Techniques Which Annoy Potential readers

2: ‘Buy my book and help save an orphaned kitten!’You know the kind of thing I mean, for every book sold, the author pledges to donate some money to [INSERT: name of worthy charity here]. I’m all for helping out a good cause, but this book-marketing technique always makes me feel like the fundraise...

Re: Breaking up Large Chunks of Monologue

Like Somer suggested, maybe the trick would be to break it up into pieces and put it into completely different SCENES instead of trying to break it up in the same scene. You can leave the reader hanging if you cut it at a juicy bit too. Sprinkle it around instead of dumping it in one spot.

Goodreads Giveaway Tips?

Finally made the dive into Goodreads last week and decided to purge a few of my hardcopies through a giveaway. Any Goodread tips? I read a great blog post somewhere but can't find it again.

Cheers

Re: My new website is ready

Nice. Setting up that $ht takes a long time. I think having an informal blog to share rambling and whatever else doesn't fit on the book's site isn't a bad idea. So don't scrap the blog completely.

You look more fantasy-guy with long hair by the way. :)

Re: Ebook

Maybe if you sold it ONCE the same way you sell a hardcopy to a used book store then I'd say fine. Distributing the book without giving a cut to the publisher and author is illegal without a doubt. If you have a high traffic site and then maybe you can work something out with authors, take a cut, an...

Re: Tears

Being sad and crying is as much a part of the human experience as joy and laughing. I feel as though I delivered my story and message when someone says I laughed and cried when I read your book. Some of the essays I've written had people crying and that makes me feel good too, so maybe I'm a mean SO...

Re: Advice You Need to Hear Right Now

Amen....Hiiiiii-Yah (spinning back kick)! Just finished watching a documentary about Francesca Woodman, a photographer from a family of artists, and it reinforced how hard it is to put yourself out there. I don't think self-doubt ever really goes away no matter how much success and recognition one g...
