World Series
Got back from Game 4 and I want to puke. Texas has built the best team in franchise history, and except for Sat. night, they have failed to appear in this WS. Giants are at the top of their game, I have to tip my hat. Bumgarner was almost untouchable, can't believe he was in high school three years ...

Re: Will technology kill book publishing? Not even close
It would be so nice if e-book fans would quit saying this in exchange for paper book fans no longer saying the e-book fans are fad gadget junkies who will move on to a new gadget in two years. I ain't sayin that. Please, guys, go read your e-readers. Have fun. Enjoy yourselves. But please stop tell...

Re: Will technology kill book publishing? Not even close
I think it goes beyond mere preference, Margo. You may go to a store or a library with friends, but reading is the most reclusive activity you can do, outside of just normal thinking. So is writing. When you go to a bookstore with someone, do you browse every single book together, or do you say some...

Re: Will technology kill book publishing? Not even close
Serious question: why does it matter what form a book (or any kind of writing) is in? I've been writing my whole life. At first, it was all published via printing press. Now it's almost exclusively electronic. I can't see the complete eradication of the traditional printed word, but I cannot underst...

Re: Present Tense
Big fight in the UK about this recently: Has present-tense narration really taken over fiction? Philip Pullman goes off/has gone off about present tense here , and I don't read enough modern fiction to comment about the trend of using it more these days, but he makes/made a point I agree with in gen...

Re: How to know you're not a writer?
Sierra, everyone's given great advice. I didn't know what you're going through, and what you're tackling is bigger than writing or most anything else, and I wish you the best. But you may be able to use it to your advantage. Another baseball analogy (sorry) - I'm a big fan of the Texas Rangers, who ...

Re: How to know you're not a writer?
I know, [throws confetti] here's a pity party. But I'm thirty-years old, and I can't do anything right. I'm only in this profession because my parents told me to do it and said...it's where the money's at. Maybe you're genuinely realizing writing ain't for you, maybe not and you're just frustrated....

Re: The Writer and Professional Responsibility
Moving to digital from, I don't know what else to call it, analog is the most significant change in publishing/writing in centuries. I don't think you need to know the industry in detail. But anyone who wants to be a writer needs to know more about it than before, or else you're going to be working ...

Re: Nathan in a Village People video
Mira, it's from a movie the Village People did called Can't Stop The Music back in 19 and 80. The movie is two hours of unadulterated crap, except the milkshake song and a few other parts.

Nathan in a Village People video
Been a while since I've posted here but I found something interesting. Looks like our agent friend Nathan has been spending some time working in a Village People video. He pops up prominently at the 0:25 mark, pulling back the curtain. Got some groovy moves at the 1:02 mark, too. Great stuff. http:/...

Re: NEW J K ROWLING IS AUSSIE
yeah, I remember reading about her a while back. Here's the story about her in the WSJ, which I think got the "next JK Rowling" ball moving. I'm no expert, but it probably had something to do with the headline - From Down Under, the Next J.K. Rowling? This excerpt from the story was amusin...
