Re: Is this a joke?? Nathan? Really?

I was sad when I heard about you leaving publishing Nathan. I think we all were. But you gotta do what makes YOU happy, and if that means taking your career in another direction I am glad that's what you did:(

Will you continue writing Jacob Wonderbar?

Re: What is a typical day like for you?

Weekdays I get up at 6:30 and get to work around 7:30 (usually read on the bus). Usually 75-100 e-mails every morning to sift through and I'm hopefully caught up around 10:00. Make calls, follow-ups, blog if I don't have one saved up, etc. etc. I head home around 4:30 (no one is calling after that ...

Re: What is a typical day like for you?

I'll be the first to admit I should write more than I do. I don't have a job at the moment...although I will be going to school shortly. Instead I spend my days watching the kidlet. He doesn't sleep like a normal baby. All of it happens at night. So I have to be a little creative to find time to wri...

Re: Obsession...

I agree with Quill. If you have the time and energy to work on your book...then by all means work on it. Don't worry about your sanity (or lack thereof). Don't worry about your "obsession". Don't worry about anything but making your book as good as it can be so you can send it out again. T...

Re: How long did it take you to write your Manuscript?

For me, it's important to write fast because my ultimate dream is to be a published author. And since most authors make hardly anything I assume writing fast would make it easier to make a living. That can backfire on you. It may be a little different with YA work, which tends to be shorter, but in...

Re: How long did it take you to write your Manuscript?

Well, the one I just finished took me 24 days to write. It's a YA novel and ended at 40k, but I hope during revision I can bump it up to at least 50k. Last year I participated in Nano and wrote 50k in 30 days. But my very first attempt at writing a novel was at ten years old. It was completely handw...

Re: What's your genre?

What genre do you write in? Is it the same as what you read? I know writers are supposed to read widely outside of their genre but I have a hard time pulling myself away from fantasy. That said, a lot of published writers don't read their genre at all. Personally, I like to know what's out there. I...

Re: How do you celebrate finishing a book?

Actually, I just "finished" my first draft today. I had no idea other writer's celebrated such a thing...but I have to admit I did imagine screaming from the rooftops...or at the very least tell my hubby and allow myself a few hours to pig out. Instead here I am on my laptop hard at work p...

Re: Query for RONNIE IN HIGH SCHOOL

Here is my 5th attempt at a query for my YA novel. Thanks for all the great feedback! <3 Dear Agent Name, I have chosen to submit a query to you because [insert personalized stuff here]. RONNIE IN HIGH SCHOOL [fake temporary title] is a young adult novel told in two parts: Freshman Year and Senior ...

Re: Forum game: Random facts about you

Okay, random fact about me: Even since I saw the movie Jaws, I can't go into the ocean. I'm scared a shark will get me. Following suit with the Jaws theme, I've never seen the movie. But when I was a kid I saw the video cover at the movie rental place. Just seeing the cover was enough that I was to...

Re: Peeta Vs. Gale

OMG. This book has changed my life! Why oh why did I not buy both books at the same time?! I'm hating myself for that let me tell you. Reading through Hunger Games one thing was completely clear to me: We don't see much of Gale. Sure, she talks about him enough...but that just wasn't enough for me. ...

Re: Endings

I'm not sure what advice to give you because I don't know if you have ever finished a first draft before. If so...how did the ending come to you? If you haven't, then there could be many reasons you can't find one: 1) Your novel isn't going in the direction it needs to be. If this is the case you mi...

Re: What you want to write VS what you write

The only advice I have to give, the only time I would say to stop and fix things before moving on, is if you hate what you are writing. If you hate the plot, the characters, the theme, ect. STOP. If you can't love your characters, if you don't respect them it is time to change things up. Not writing...

Re: Do you use QueryTracker?

Although I have an account I am trying to stay away from the site right now because I am in the middle of my first draft. If I go to that site I can easily spend hours there, and that's not good because that is time spent not writing. But yes, it is a good site to use. Also I hear AgentQuery is good...
