Re: Rejection Stats
You guys might want to check out my lastest blog post at http://www.inthedreamstate.blogspot.com . I went through the last 30 Success Story interviews on QueryTracker and did the math for the number of queries those writers sent out before getting an offer. The average was 57!!! And almost 20% of t...

Re: Bestsellers that don't live up to the hype
I just finished Cormac McCarthy's The Road. Now, don't get me wrong, it's a thought provoking book and written in a unique style, but, I couldn't help thinking it was kind of like Mad Max, without the cars. The theme of it, I mean. Everyone is out to get everyone else, it's bleak,it's depressing, an...

Re: Why do you reread books?
I love re-reading books. I seem to be in the minority here. lol. One reason is that I'm guaranteed to like the book. ;-) Honestly, though, I'm not sure. I just love re-entering the world of whatever story I'm re-reading. Mostly I re-read long books. I think I've read Roots about five times in the la...

Re: Rejection Stats
mmcdonald64- are you getting rejected based off query? or based on full requests? If off the query maybe all you need is a query rewrite. If off the fulls, I'm going to make what will likely be a very risque suggestion considering this is an agent's message board. If the agents are all turning down...

Re: Rejection Stats
My stats are skyhigh with rejections. In fact, I'm done sending out new queries. I have about a dozen outstanding, but after those roll in, I'm done querying this book.

Re: Summer Reading for kids
If she likes Gulliver's Travels, she might like "Wide Awake in Dreamland" by John Duel. It has a sort of mystical quality to it. Also, a personal favorite of mine was The Forgotten Door. I loved the whole concept that a boy on a planet far away could fall through a door and end up on Earth...

Re: The Google Tablet Cometh
That sounds cool. I wonder what the price will be? Also, I think they should call it the Googlet.

Re: Google Buzz
So, after reading the post yesterday, I checked my google buzz. I even edited it to have my Twitter linked...I think. I can't see that anything is different today. I have no idea what Google buzz is all about. There's a video to watch that I guess would show me more, but if it's so complicated I nee...

Re: Any book collectors here?
I'm not much of a collector. I only have the two I mentioned. I've thought it interesting though and growing up, my dad had a complete set of Mark Twain books he'd received from his father. The set didn't all come out at once, as they had different dates, but I'm thinking that the publishing company...

Any book collectors here?
I have a good used bookstore just a stone's throw from my house and go in there when I can to browse. A few years ago I found a nice second printing of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. In researching it, I was disappointed that it wasn't a first printing, but found it had an interesting history nonetheless...

Re: Friday Night Lights
As far as Julie, I think it's because she has a parent teaching at each school, so she could go to either. As far as Luke's dad becoming a coach...I won't comment on that for spoiler reasons. ;-) I knew it!!! Yeah, it's not a huge thing though. Just...well, when you see it, you'll know why that isn...

Re: Friday Night Lights
There was a lot of talk on the televisionwithoutpity boards about the whole East Dillon and why nobody seems to know each other since presumably, they went to school together before. I created my own scenario in my head. lol. I figure that Dillon had mostly kids from in town, but now that they've r...

Re: Friday Night Lights
I liked the first episode best. Coach Taylor is such a wonderful character. And Riggins! (he appears to have been attending my graduate school alma mater, St. Edward's in Austin). I'm a bit wary of the eccentric artist subplot though. Seems a little cheesy. Also, I almost cried along with that poor...

Re: Friday Night Lights
This is my favorite show of all time. I have DirecTV just to watch it. I blogged about the show last week--well, and also a few weeks before that-- I think my followers are getting tired of all my FNL mentions. ;-) But it's like spitting into the wind. I keep saying I'll give up on converting people...
