Re: Query - "Perfect Pitch" YA Urban Fantasy
Joe Mason is trapped. I like this opening line. I starts on an urgent tone. With a juvenile record, an absent family, and even fewer friends, his life feels like it’s over – even though he’s only eighteen. The only escape he can find is in his favorite series of fantasy novels, and his daydreams. B...

Re: Query - A Divine Dementia - First Query
I chose to submit a query letter to you because of your publicized interest in that which is dark, counter-cultural, thought provoking, and mind bending. I'm not sure this statement is necessary. The agent knows why you are sending, so I would recommend starting with the story itself. Detective Har...

Re: Do your research!
she also does not try to use English in the way that the Tudors did. At the same time, she captures a great deal about the past through her understanding of the period and the characters. To be honest, I'm not sure if any of us can be 100% sure of the language used in the past and I don't necessari...

Do your research!
So, I was reading this novel the other day (I won't mention it) and the story was filled with discrepancies. The story took place in the past, but the language did not match what it would have been at that time, and several historical details were horribly mistaken. If there is one aspect of a novel...

J.E. Browning's Tales of Roumanhi, Homequest: Liberation. It's a new author, and so far I'm really enjoying it!

Re: Series Novels: Why should the first one have to stand alone?
I don't expect the industry/readers to conform to my personal needs. When I said that the book must be written the was it was meant to be, I only meant that it is not always best to know how the story will end up. It is good to be surprised by what happens in the novel. By allowing yourself to be s...

Re: Series Novels: Why should the first one have to stand alone?
Mira, I am definitely with you in the minority. Granted, I wrote this question and I may be a bit biased because my series doesn't have a stand alone, but I agree with your theory that a book must be written the way it is meant to be. I may sound nuts, but the book writes itself and sometimes we can...

Series Novels: Why should the first one have to stand alone?
I understand that in the book publishing industry, most people don't want to take a risk on a book series unless they know the first one will sell, but why does the first novel have to stand alone. A novel that stands alone has the same chance of success that a novel with "to be continued"...

Re: Advice for a newbie to publishing?
Hello,
I was just wondering if there are any different types of publishers other than Traditional, Self and Vanity. Also, what is the difference between a vanity publisher and a self-publisher?
Thanks!

Re: Ask Nathan
Nathan,
Is it normal for a publishing company to make the author pay for production charges (ie. printing, extra pages, etc.)?
Thanks

Re: Nominate Your Query for a Critique on the Blog
Dear Nathan, I would like to introduce you to Lillian McFarren fresh from her final year in college. Lily is moving back into her adoptive parents’ home and just as she begins to fear that her life will never take off, she is visited by a man from a past she has no knowledge of. The man, Salander Ph...
