Re: Query: All That Glitters (YA)

Latest draft. I *think* I'm getting there, but tell me what you think: Belén can’t believe that Señor Rossi, the man who saved her life years ago, is a war criminal. What’s even stranger is that this news is coming from the ethereal lips of a teenage spirit. After all, ghosts don’t exist, until Ale ...

Re: Query: All That Glitters (YA)

So I gave this query a giant makeover...tell me what you think :) Belén can’t believe it when she learns Señor Rossi, the man who saved her nine-year-old self from drowning, is a war criminal. Or that this news is coming from the ethereal lips of a teenage spirit. After all, ghosts don’t exist. Or s...

Query: All That Glitters (YA)

Any comments/thoughts/suggestions/etc are welcome! :) Belén never believed in ghosts. Until she meets Ale, the restless spirit of a teenage girl who says that her old neighbor and family friend, Señor Rossi, is a war criminal. Ale is a desaparecida, one of the 30,000 people who were kidnapped, tortu...

Re: Query - The Beautiful People

Thanks again everyone! Here's the latest (and hopefully final...lol like that's going to happen xD) draft of the query. Tell me what you think: In Santiago Chile’s Beverly Hills, seventeen-year-old upper-crust princess Cote commits a mortal sin—falling for working class musician Salvador. She’s draw...

Re: Query - The Beautiful People

ahhhhh you guys are AMAZING! once again, THANK YOU soooo much for your invaluable help! :) Here's the latest draft, and as you can see, it's grown quite a bit. I hope in the best way possible! In Santiago, Chile’s answer to Beverly Hills, seventeen-year-old Cote commits a capital crime—falling for w...

Re: Query - The Beautiful People

Okay, so I've taken some time off and this is what I came up with. Also I was inspired by the lates QS post on how to handle query letters for multi-POV novels. I chose to do it from Cote's POV, since the other POV made this book sound way more shallow than (I hope) it is. In Santiago, Chile’s most ...

Re: Query - The Beautiful People

Ahh, you guys are all so awesome! I've been thinking about for a while how to combine all the MCs into a query that doesn't read like character soup (as well as combining the good elements from both queries posted above). And so, this is what I got: All her life, Magdalena has desperately wanted ent...

Re: Query - The Beautiful People

Thanks for your comments littlebird!

The book technically has 4 MCs (who get pretty much equal POV time in the book--the chapters are separated by POV). But I figured 4 MCs is too much for a query, so instead decided to focus on just 1 or 2 (well, in these two attempts, just 1) character.

Query - The Beautiful People

Dear God, I've worked so hard on this (and I definitely think these latest efforts are miles above what I originally wrote), but tell me what you think. The first query is from the villian's POV. She's really not that sympathetic of a character, yet I had a lot of suggestions that told me to write t...

Re: One of the greatest novels? I give it one star.

The Slaughterhouse Five review was hilarious.
I do not believe that an alien can kidnap someone and house them in a zoo for years at a time, while it is only a microsecond on earth. I also do not believe that a person has seven parents.

Re: How many people do you query?

I don't follow the rule that says to query widely. Instead, I try to find agents who are looking for the kind of things I write, who might be a good match to my work, etc, etc. And so far, it's worked for me. I've queried four agents, two of whom have requested the full MS (one gave me constructive ...

Re: What's your genre?

YA and LitFic (adult). Though someone did say once my YA book could be considered "Literary YA."

I read YA and adult LitFic too. And nonfiction that interests me.

Re: How'd you come up with that?

For me, it's always been (haha even when I was like 12 years old) that I get really interested in certain historical (either true historical or more modern historical) times and places and events. And from there, I craft characters and I craft my story.
