Re: A to Z Blog Challenge Participant Posts

Man, you people are good (that should've been our post). We can barely keep up with the challenge, let alone posting about it in other places!! (although I would've, but I haven't been around here lately, sorry to post-and-run, hope to stop by and make sure we're keeping up) (keeping up was our K po...

Re: Super Bowl XLV

I haven't been around here a lot lately. And now I have no recollection how to paste a picture. But trust me, I have a really good one of Clay Matthews sacking Big Ben earlier in the season. It's on my blog with some Packer party recipes if anyone want to see it.

Re: Do you have a new blog post?

We had to blog about Nathan and our feelings about him leaving the agency. Also, we have author interviews during the month of November if anyone is interested (on the sidebar, link to November Author Series - we have 2 up and have 4 more to post this month. The link's (points down) right there.

Re: What is the worst thing you have ever thrown up?

I thought for sure I'd open this thread and it would be about a bad writing experience - like, thrown up on the screen. By the time I got to Evelyn, my eyes were watering from laughing and I had to wait to type this!! I've taught preschool for 14 years, so nothing can make me throw up now. But I got...

Re: Guest Blog Payin' For Your Raisin'

Ha! Great post. My favorite line: "Conception - This is the fun and exciting part." I think a lot of dads use this line (or would, if they were writers!).

(Someone really needs to teach me how to use the fancy quote thingy here, btw.)

Re: Agents/Interns Tweeting Query Comments

I don't know that I mind it as an author whose query might be mentioned (I don't know if any of mine have, btw). However, I wouldn't like it if an agent who has time to tweet about every query they go through in a night then can't find the time to personalize their rejections (or send anything at al...

Re: If you were an agent....

I'd represent Heather B. Because obviously she's brilliant! Okay, for realsies (as realsies as fakesies can be): I'd require the synopsis. As much as I hate it, as an author, I totally get it. And I'd ask for anything that had an interesting (not necessarily wonderfully written at that point but int...

Re: Gender roles: Emotionally weak heroines

Didn't read all these posts, but hopefully I'm following. I'm troubled a bit by comparing Bella in Twilight (can't discuss HG series - haven't read them) to YA heroines. She's a main character, but heroine? Not what I would call her. I like the books and I'm glad they brought so many teens to readin...

Re: Address to agent or assistant?

It's hard to say without seeing the actual website entry, but I doubt it's a dealbreaker either way. Here's some thoughts: - If it specifically says to address the query to the assistant (with her name listed), do that. - If it says you may address it to either, it doesn't matter. Either way it has ...

Re: Jade's Hurricane, Take 2: Will send to Agents

Your first and second paragraphs still aren't flowing smoothly. In the first, you say she's catatonic. In the second, she's on a journey. You don't want to get too wordy, but you do need to indicate that she's now awake and maybe how. Also, I'm a little confused why this hurricane will be worse than...

Re: Paranormal YA first chapter

*Note - I critiqued a different version of a beginning for this book on another forum* Christy - I think you're getting closer to the true beginning of this book, but maybe you lost a little in the cutting process that's confusing. I agree with Krista G. that you could cut to when Dawn is leaving cl...

I asked another agent that question during a live chat last week and she said she doesn't pay much attention to them since so many get changed at some point in the process. And yes, I asked because my title sux. :)

Re: Why is it So Hard to Tell if Our Writing is Good?

I agree with Justine's unpublished 2 cents. Most (maybe all) published authors were rejected by agents and editors. So, when did they become "good"?

Re: How many people do you query?

Sarah - one more observation. If you haven't had anyone read your full ms yet, I don't think you're ready to query. Sorry. I found someone here who did a three-chapter critique for me, then I moved on to a beta who did my full ms, then I found an awesome critique group who did my first 5 chapters. T...
