Re: Which book have you read the most number of times?

A Christmas Carol - by Dickens- reading it every year at christmas has become my yearly tradition (sad I know!!) Apart from that, I suppose 'I'm not scared' by Niccolo Ammaniti has been the most re-read book Fav as a child - the Wishing Chair by Enid Blyton and as a teen 'looking for Alibrandi' by M...

Re: Peeta Vs. Gale

The main difference I see between the two men in Katniss's life is Peeta puts Katniss first; she is his world. I think Gale puts the revolution first. We assume he loves Katniss, but she's not the sole focus of his life. As for Kat's feelings, she appears to love them both. My prediction: she'll ch...

Re: Does your MS go up or down in size?

Mine goes up - usually it's filling in scenes that I haven't elaborated on in my first draft (that while they're so clear in my head, aren't so on the paper!). My current WIP went up to 78, 000 from 72, 000

Re: Swearwords. US vs. the rest

hahah nice try!!! I'd never thought that the word damn would be an offensive word (seeing as how much it's used here in aust) and hadn't really thought much about AUS vs US lang use - so thanks!!! But on that point eringayles, I've always been mindful of not using aussie slang unless I was pitching ...

Re: Head-Hopping - what's the deal people?

I only like it when it's done seamlessly and there's no clunky transition between the two - but i also need it to be very clear that there has been a change in POV - I hate it when it isn't and I have to read back and work out when it happened.

Re: Books that Break the Rules

Oh I must give this a read. The book that comes to mind when you mentioned breaking the rules was Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things (that gave me a little hope that everything can be published! Although on a side note I heard Irvine Welsh speak today - he said that he believed that Trainspotti...

Re: NaNoWriMo

I signed up two years ago with great intentions but November seems to be such a busy work month I can't seem to clear enough time - for me I know that I'd rather take my time and write rather than push through to write 50, 000 words in one month that I know i'll either be very unhappy with and would...

Re: How old are you?

Ugh fine!!! I'll admit my age, I'm 22. As for me, I 'wrote' my first book when I was four (with some very creative spelling!), by 10 I'd won a few short story comps, but after that I wrote only for school assignments until taking a writing course at uni - I haven't stopped writing since :)

Re: The Introduction Thread

Yep!! Flinders all the way! I was very surprised (and happy) to see another south aussie, and yes I've decided I would love to hang on to my twenties! Hope you're heading along to writers week next week!:)

Re: The Introduction Thread

Hi all! another south aussie here (who is just loving the hot weather!!!). Thought I'd take a few minutes to introduce myself - I'm in my 'twenties' (I vaguely remember Nathan blogging a while back about this very term, although I could be completely making it up!). ok, early twenties. I'm a speech ...

Re: Do you have a new blog post?

I've just blogged about what we know about readers connecting with writing from what psycholinguistics & neuroscience research has told us.

I swear it doesn't get technical - I promise :)

Re: Qualified to Write???

There are thousands of students churned out of Uni's each year with english, linguistics and speech & lang pathology degrees. Just because they have an in-depth knowledge of writing (and can lecture you on semi-colons and dangling modifiers) does that automatically mean they can write? I persona...

Re: The Process

My writing process changes depending on what I'm writing, my current WIP started as a short story but I really loved the character's voice and felt I hadn't done them justice in the short piece, so I started again and re-wrote and kept writing. I like to have a fair idea of what I want to happen but...

Re: Music or quiet when you write?

I have gotten into the really bad habit of listening to music whenever I type - and have found that without music playing I tend to stare at the screen and read instead of typing as if I need the music to help those neurons fire away :) At the moment I have a bit of everything playing: Ladyhawke, va...
