Re: Anyone up for a Meet 'n' Greet?
The first time I went to Vegas I was all like, "YAY SLOT MACHINES YAY! PRETTY!" After about 10 minutes I was like, "OMG I JUST LOST THE COST OF A PAIR OF SHOES. I'm done, let's go to the Sega Arcade!"Mira wrote:Oh boy, oh boy, VEGAS.
I love Vegas. I like gorgeous hotels. I like buffets of food that go on for miles. I like "free" drinks that you really pay for because you have to tip the waitress. I like the complete absence of clocks and the hidden cameras and all the lights and flashes and sounds of the slot machines. I like to sit down at a gambling table with sunglasses on and pretend I'm a cool grown-up. What is not to like about Vegas?
I want to beat Nathan at poker. For a copy of his second book in advance of printing. That's right, Nathan, the challenge is on. If I win, I get to read Jacob Wonderbar for President. If you win.....I don't.
Fair stakes.
I love Vegas!!

Which is why I would have to play Poker with someone who understands it. I usually have no clue what I'm doing, and end up with "all these interesting people and no matches".
"This isn't Gin Rummy, you idiot, and that's a flush."
"Ohhhh..."
That is totally why you should go. C'mon, you know you wanna play Pokemon with Claudie and I (which I will be winning, btw).
I would play poker with you. I play for fun, not for money, which used to piss the people off who I played with, because they took it so seriously. And, I'm totally following you around the floor, hoping you "accidentally" play something you don't understand and win lots of money. Hey, just think about it, you could win back your expenses!

I typically play for fun... with money? We put a cap (not a lot of money), and while people do win money, I've never seen anyone become all "ooh, don't touch my 10 bucks I wanna double them" over it. So. FUN.cookie wrote:I would play poker with you. I play for fun, not for money, which used to piss the people off who I played with, because they took it so seriously. Also, my boyfriend suggests we use an empty, unused casino table to have our Pokemon battle. It would be EPIC. (and we'd end up all over the net, if anybody films)

That sounds like an awesome idea! I can see it now. And we can play for candy or something.

You guys can tentatively count me in. I say tentatively as it will depend upon me breaking out of my stinky low paying bureaucratic job by then. I keep throwing job apps on the wall and getting interviews...something got to stick eventually!
I would love to meet everyone...and see Vegas!

Well I would so go if I have the moola. So, perhaps, hmmmmm, a Nathan Reality Convention...we invite TV crews in and the script evolves over the course of our experiment... Oh, so many ideas!
But seriously, if it happens in Vegas, does it really have to stay there too?
I'd love to go!

No, sorry, but I'm having fun reading your Pokemon discussion. wouldn't mind looking over someone's shoulder and learning about it though!Cookie wrote:Do we have another Pokemon player?Mira wrote:Yay!!

Wow, that's so....SMART. I usually figure I should keep going until I not only win the shoes back but make enough to buy a scarf to go with them. You must be very disciplined in real life. I must learn from you.Sommer Leigh wrote: The first time I went to Vegas I was all like, "YAY SLOT MACHINES YAY! PRETTY!" I just realized that it might be hard to keep Mira focused on the workshops, what with the Pokemon at night and knowing that my husband will be sitting in the corner playing Civilization 4 on my laptop during the day.Mira wrote:No, sorry, but I'm having fun reading your Pokemon discussion. wouldn't mind looking over someone's shoulder and learning about it though!

That could be a problem, since I'm extremely competitive, and always want to win. Even when I'm not playing. But if I can't win because I'm not playing, I root for you, Cookie!Cookie wrote:Only if you root for meMira wrote: No, sorry, but I'm having fun reading your Pokemon discussion. wouldn't mind looking over someone's shoulder and learning about it though!
eeeeeeeee!!! That's just the type of thing I'd do. Go to Vegas and spend the whole time trying to get your husband to give me his laptop so I could play Civiliation 4. How did you know???dios4vida wrote:I just realized that it might be hard to keep Mira focused on the workshops, what with the Pokemon at night and knowing that my husband will be sitting in the corner playing Civilization 4 on my laptop during the day.Mira wrote:No, sorry, but I'm having fun reading your Pokemon discussion. wouldn't mind looking over someone's shoulder and learning about it though!
And we're having workshops? Boy, this is like a real conference or something.

Re: Anyone up for a Meet 'n' Greet?
<ahem> It's my laptop, Mira. And he gets dibs, sorry. I already promised he could use it when I'm over being a nerd with the writers. I remember you asking about PC strategy games in the gamer threads, and since Civ 4 is one of my husband's favorites I know he'll play it and I just had a feeling you'd be drooling over his shoulder. We might have to get you some blinders and chain you to the table to get you to focus on anything else.Mira wrote:eeeeeeeee!!! That's just the type of thing I'd do. And yeah, we're talking about having some critique sessions and stuff like that. After all, we're a bunch of writing nerds who met on a writer's forum. You couldn't keep us from talking about/showing off our WIPs if you TRIED!! Might as well incorporate that into the schedule since we know it'll happen, right?
