I use an exercise/yoga ball for writing. I never considered that it helped keep your backside from falling asleep, but that is a great benefit. I like using it because it's very comfortable and if I get stuck I can always bounce around and it seems to help me with my thinking process.
Warning: You may become addicted to using a yoga ball for your writing after you begin using it. I don't like sitting on a normal stool/chair at my desk anymore because it feels too stiff.
