Can self-pubishing hurt my chances for an agent

Post by zenfisher » October 4th, 2013, 11:49 pm

Hi Nathan,
Thanks for the great and vast amount of information on your site. My question is:
I have a 100,000 word memoir that I would like to publish. I am considering self publishing it as an e-book while I go through the process of finding an agent/publisher. Do you feel I can damage my chances at securing a book deal by self-publishing in the meantime?
Thanks.

Hi zenfisher, it really depends on how much you sell and how much interest you're able to generate. This is a very old post, but the gist still applies: http://blog.nathanbransford.com/2007/08 ... areer.html
