Ivy League on the down low

Post by PaloAltoYAWriter » August 13th, 2011, 8:21 am

Hi Nathan,

I'm excited to see your book out! I got it for my son to read. And what a terrific resource you're offering here - thank you!

One question I'm wondering about - I noticed you didn't mention Stanford in your author bio and was wondering if you would be willing to share the reason? I've seen authors mention their Ivy League educations in their bios and queries and had always heard that if you had it, you should use it as a promotional tool. Is an Ivy League ed a negative when it comes to children's general fiction? What about when an agent is pitching your manuscript to editors?

Thanks!

Obviously not Nathan  but my coauthor and I went to a Very Posh School which we don't mention in our author bios simply because it's not very relevant. Also, it occasionally puts people off, since they tend to then assume wildly inaccurate things about our backgrounds, or simply think we're pretentious or otherwise unapproachable.
