What's the longest you've ever gone without writing?

Like, in your adult life, no need to count the first 10 years.

For me, I think the most is around three months. What about you?

Longer than that. There was probably a period after my father died when I didn't write for a year or so. I was okay with that. It was a crazy year in so many ways, and my mental energies were needed elsewhere. Sometimes you have to give yourself license not to write.

There have been other periods when I've gone months. LIfe is interesting. Some of those periods were simply focused on other things (five kids, etc.). A few were periods where I wanted to write and simply struggled to find the time/energy.

The longest I think for me has been five years. I just didn't have any desire to write until about nine years ago I decided to get back into it again. I have times were I write a lot, then go for months at a time writing nothing. At this point it's a hobby, but I would like to publish something some day.

Unless you count the writing I do for work, I'm in my longest rut now. It's been about three months since I've worked on my novel.
