Ranking Idea...Ethical or not?
Wasn't sure where else to post this (like we NEVER go off track in a thread, right?) but I thought people might be curious. I was certainly curious. Ever wonder what those Amazon sales ranks mean in terms of actual numbers of ebooks sold? Every once in a while a writer will mention they were sellin...

E-Books Nightmode "Bug"
Found another "bug" in the iPad version of my book. The chapter headings disappear in nighttime mode when the background is black and the text is white. It's something to think about since many e-readers are starting to offer a Nightmode for reading. The pictures in the book aren't affecte...

Re: What's the proper thing to do here?
Just be genuine and polite. Email the agent saying you met an author friend/client of theirs. Email the author to remind him/her that met them and you are going drop their name. If it's meant to be, it will be.
Good luck!
Good luck!

Re: Self-Publishing Basics
Good stuff David. There have been a number of posts with the blanket question, "How do I self-publish?"
It's not something that can be answered with a one-liner or a single post unless you say.....Dedication.
Just got an iPad and looking forward to downloading some of your stuff.

Re: Stuck .....
I always like the quick witted Macgyver (sp?) like solutions using the environment. Is there an old gas line that is still active? A giant water tank that can be upended? A section of flooring or roof that can topple easily? Peruse some video and pictures of old jails for some ideas or go to an old ...

Re: Multimedia e-books
Something I just learned. Even though Kindle Fire and Nook Color support videos, the reading program, the one you would use to view and read books DOES NOT support video. I don't understand what Amazon and B&N are thinking (not thinking?) because they sell Enhanced Editions in their stores. So i...

Re: Pricing game and distribution
Thanks Mira. With my book being a single book and no future book(s) anytime soon my approach will have to be a little different. I'd like to keep my price point between $3-4 so I can "share." Part of my marketing strategy once I get the multimedia version out there is to try and get pet or...

Re: Contests/Magazines
Can't help you with suggestions but I will say that the whole contest thing is sort of a half scam/money-maker (there are some legit and credible ones though). A few years ago, I entered all kinds of essay contests for $25-$50 a pop or more and nothing came of it. It might be better to look for anth...

Pricing game and distribution
It looks like I'm within a month of releasing the multimedia edition of my book. Been saying that for months now but that's publishing. Once I get it into iBooks that's when I plan on playing the whole pricing game. I know there are whole books written on the subject and it's been covered here--ther...

Uptick in SPAM after posting here?
Does anyone else see an uptick in spam after posting in these forums? I don't have a the squiggly-password thing setup for comments but I do have Akismet activated. It's pretty consistent. I post in the forums and get about two dozen spam comments on my site in the next 24 hours. Just wondering.

Re: The SQUEE GOOD NEWS Thread
I never thought that any of my books is ever going to reach this, but on Amazon US, Anno Humanae Salutis (7 Post Meridiem XSS #1)'s present rank: #2 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Fiction > Short Stories (Amazon US Best Seller Rank: #187) Sweet! Your site looks great. With those numbers you are ...

Re: Time to start a blog?
Think about it a little but not too much. Make it fun. Somer pretty much has it dialed in. Eventually if you'll probably want a pro-grade site for your future books but for now a blog is great for "publishing" whatever content your heart desires. I have a fishing/surfing blog that I love p...

I'm a third grade teacher. :-) Nice. I was a teacher for five years but knew I had to quit if I wanted to follow some of creative aspirations like writing a book. It's a job I brought home physically and emotionally. So...I've been a self employed remodel contractor for nine years now. Just remodel...

That's great Matt! Feels good to release your baby I'm sure, but careful of that artist's postpartum thing. Happened to me for a good month after the release of my book. Don't wear out the keyboard checking sale's reports. :) High five Margo or should I say High-five thousand. Very impressive. Haven...

You definitely don't have to pay for the legal documents to set up an LLC. Maybe if you go big one day and have two dozen members and employees then you might need some legal documents. Not sure if the state you live in requires that paperwork to set up the business. I am using the Lightning Source ...
