Re: All You Need To Know About Line Editing

I found the article empty of signficant meaning. The essay's title doesn't match the essay itself, a firm assertion the essay doesn't realize. The essay "begs the question," assumes the conclusion and never supports the argument's claim basis, doesn't assert a signficant claim in the first...

Re: Ready to publish 1st ebook - Need Advice

"Aggregators" have popped up in response to "the hassles" of coping with individual distribution outlets' manifold proprietary formats, notably due to DRM concerns: Distribution Rights Management. Many aggregators are "middleman" revenue pirates and also have reputation...

Re: Guidelines and rules for presenting copy

Standard Manuscript Format avoids any adjustments such as word breaks, shy hyphenation, widow and orphan lines, etc. No formatting whatsoever excpet for basic page layout is SMF. Standard Publication Format is a house publication designer's prerogative. The house style sets practices, sometimes depe...

Re: Publishing under a pseudonym

Infringement is where litigation and timely copyright registration benefits acrue. A DBA alias is a benefit if a writer wishes to legally conduct business activities under the alias. Whether a writer's pseudonym needs to be a public record statutory alias depends on whether a writer wants to do busi...

Re: Publishing under a pseudonym

Copyright starts when a creative work is in a fixed and tangible form: manuscript, DVD, audio recording, music score, computer application, etc., not necessarily paper, and is at least machine receivable. A copyright notice only notes that otherwise superfluous detail of when the copyright clock sta...

Re: Self versus Traditional Publishers

Publishing culture generally withholds payment until a sales threshold is met; roughly $50.00 or so is the current trend. Whether to self-publish the next novel or publish through an established publisher is a personal choice. Maybe the choice is not a matter of where the most revenue comes from, wh...

Re: Createspace for POD???

CreateSpace is one of three economical print book manufacturers and online distributors: Lulu and Xlibris the other two, each with advantages and disadavantges that weigh decisions. Each is sales driven as regards writer revenue and manufacturer revenue, similar cost, profit, and revenue metrics mor...

Re: How do you feel about books written from multiple POV's?

Stories with more than one viewpoint for young adult readers focus on themes relevant for young adult issues, the theme the interest of greatest appeal. However, one character should have a greater role than the other character or characters in at least one area, so readers care most about that char...

Re: ISBNs are expensive for U.S. Authors and Small Presses

I don't see ISBN assignments as a particular cost bar to small publishers. For similar reasons I won't accept a CreateSpace or Lulu or Lightning Source ISBN assignment I would reluctantly accept one from a small publisher. Ten and thirteen digit ISBNs associate a second or more generation source age...

Re: How to Make Symbols with Keyboard

Several of my wordprocessor programs' apps have an easy text clip file feature. Character entities like accute accent E for cliché and grave accent A for vis-à-vis are a few keystrokes. I have a large number of these "ligatures" as they are labeled by typesetters and a host of other symbol...

Re: Developing a story, would like some help

Several questions are for me important to a well-crafted narrative. What does the protagonist want, how does she or he strive to get it, and what problems prevent her or him from getting it, or vice versa what problem arises that causes the protagonist to want to strive to satisfy the problem. What ...
