Re: Official NaNoWriMo 2012 Thread
My Project: A series of short stories/novellas approximately 10,000-25,000 words in length each. My Word Count Goal: 75,000 words ( I already know that I can write 50,000 in a month so I'm trying for something bigger.) My Twitter: Sommer_Leigh Nov 1: 1900 Nov 2-4: 7100 (Yeah I didn't keep very good...

Official NaNoWriMo 2012 Thread
This is it! We've almost hit the big day so I thought now would be a good time to get the official thread up. Post your word counts and your OMG moments here! Also, throw up a notice if you are planning some writing time on Twitter. Use the hashtag #BF1h1k when you are initiating a writing sprint so...

Re: How many Characters do you have?
I'm going to "ditto" what Brenda said. I think you can drive yourself crazy worrying about the tiny details up front. It's impossible to know if you've used too many characters or not enough or if your book is too long or too short or if you've used too many adverbs or not the right ones a...

Re: What T.V. shows are you watching?
This fall is killing me with new shows. I just don't have time to watch them all!! Thank god for netflix and Hulu and Zune and my awesomesauce multitasking skills so I don't feel like I'm wasting my entire time when I run through new episodes. Here's my new list: Leverage Warehouse 13 Alphas Revenge...

Re: Ok maybe this is a writing question,
I write YA and the best way to learn about writing about young adults is to read other contemporary young adult literature. The best way to learn about young adults to talk to young adults. Psychology books are probably not going to tell you about the culture of being a teen right now. You know you'...

Re: On Post Apocalypse And Writing Perspective,
Also, its not going to be a pure dystopian novel, or a pure post apocalypse novel. I'm going to try to write a believable and sympathetic religious character despite being not religious myself. Or rather more importantly her dad is religious. I have not decided if she's personally Catholic. The cou...

Re: On Post Apocalypse And Writing Perspective,
Show and tell is something I can improve on though me thinks.<_< I used to be able to do it, I'm just a bit out of practice. Actually i guess showing, and not telling would be something your editor would help you with. I should be trying to show and not tell even if writing in first person. Get rid...

Re: How many Characters do you have?
This is unusual for me, but I have a pretty large cast in the superhero story. That's primarily because there's the The Heroes, The Villains, The In-Betweens, and The Very Bad Guys, plus all the people that support them. A handful of them are dead, which makes it interesting that they are supporting...

Re: The Coffee Shop - OCTOBER
I hope there will be a trend away from trends :) It makes it easier to just write without worrying that you're on the tail end of a dead fad. And I'm kind of sick of series too. I haven't even been finishing the ones I've started because I just want to try more new authors instead. I think way too ...

Re: The Coffee Shop - OCTOBER
Just curious, what do you guys think the next big trend in YA is? It seems dystopia is over, and so are vampires etc. I am seeing a decent amount of fairies and fairy tale retellings. I actually think we're going to see YA veer away from trends for a while and support unique storytelling (I'm think...

Re: Authors are wacko: Swedish study
One thing I find flawed, or maybe telling, about these types of studies, is that they look for the prevelence of mental health disorders and personality markers in authors and other creative types, rather than looking at the prevelence of people with mental health disorders and certain personality m...

Re: What T.V. shows are you watching?
I have some SERIOUS issues with Revolution. I feel like now, it's one of those "so bad, it's good" shows. It makes me sad that MST3K is no longer around because this show is PRIME material. Sommer--we should see about a blog series based on this show. Personally, I want to know how you wa...

Re: "Perfect" Novels
I think there has been only one perfect book (in my opinion): Marcus Zsuzak's THE BOOK THEIF How he was able to work the narration, and the dry humor, and pack SUCH an emotional punch? The book is hands down, amazing. And to me, perfect. I will agree with this assessment completely. The Book Thief ...
