Re: Weird Writing Habits

I don't like quite when writing either. I almost always listen to music when writing. The right songs make a big difference in getting me in the right mindset for the scene in question. When writing a bonfire dance scene I was listening to Polynesian drumbeats on loop endlessly ;) And of course, Cos...

Re: I've accidentally set the difficulty to 'Mayhem'.....

I haven't read your work Hillys--though if Brenda likes it I'm sure I would, too--so take this with a grain of salt, but I agree with polymath. I think 7 is too many angles. Your average reader is not going to know your world as well as you do, not going to read the book in one sitting, and going to...

Re: "I thought of a novel" "Oh! so it's like so and so" "... :("

I did that a few times, until I finally just stopped sharing my ideas when I got them. It sounds sad, like I'm sulking and refusing to participate in the party or something, but I've found that the thrill of the Shiny New Idea can sooooo easily be tarnished by others who don't see your vision. And ...

Re: Breaking down a published novel's story

As Poly and Mira said, you should never feel bad about asking a question, especially not here. Nobody is going to jump down your throat for not knowing every answer, and everybody was a beginning sometime. Actually, that question is pretty insightful. It's when we start thinking about how the novel ...

Yeah, I watched the first one. It's definitely nice for those of us not living anywhere near him.

Re: Pottermore?

I used it to buy the books for my Kindle. I don't imagine I'd go back again, given that I bought them as a set. Which is part of the problem with the whole separate retailer thing--unlike Amazon, many of your customers only visit once.

Re: Another POV question

Is the rest of your novel in omniscient? Even it is, I'd say that's a risk of confusion. If it's not, then definitely don't head up.

Re: My epic fantasy - The Skyfall Trilogy

On the whole pricing issue, one thing David said in his blog today, about seeing the prices of other historical fictions in his ballpark--it's something I've been thinking about. I think different genres demand different prices. If you look at the top selling fantasy indies, most prices at $2.99. I'...

Re: Resume?

Unless you applied for a job as his or her assistant, that sounds really weird. If you're querying non-fiction, I could see them wanting to know your qualifications, but a resume sounds off.

Re: What are you reading now?

The Golden Compass I found The Subtle Knife was my favourite in that series. I'm now reading the Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke. A childhood fav. I finished the Golden Compass the other day. I enjoyed it, though not enough to put the sequels high on my TBR list. They're on there, but I have a lot of ...
