Re: Do you have a new blog post?

I'm running a contest on my blog through which I'm giving away a $50 Amazon gift card to one of my Twitter followers (or someone who signs up to follow me on Twitter). You can also get additional entries by telling other people about the contest. Everything you need to know is in this post: http://d...

Re: Twitter Dilemma

This is great; thanks for all your thoughts. One challenge I have with the @KnowWhosAwesome feed is that I can't really break character, so to speak, to tweet at someone. The way I work around this to thank people for Follow Friday mentions, etc. is through direct messaging.

Twitter Dilemma

Here's a Twitter dilemma I'd like to pose to all of you: Is it ever cool just to follow a ton of people (like thousands) and hope that a modest percentage follow you back, thereby gaining you a healthy following in relative short order? My opinion always (which here means "since November")...

Re: Why I Don't Tell People I Write

I can't help it--I have to tell people. It's too much a part of me not to. Plus, once you have enough people tell you: "Your humor's great, but you need a platform," it becomes a necessity to ask each and every person you come across to pretty please follow @KnowWhosAwesome on Twitter ( ht...

Re: Chances are, you won't get rich.

This is one of those times I'm glad I live in Indiana and not a major city (I realize that was kind of redundant). A not-so-huge advance gets a little bigger when your cost of living is so low.

Re: Social Media Cream Corn fighting Championship!!1!

I, too, use Blogger for my blog but find that the actual "follow" feature doesn't offer readers much of a benefit. At least with Twitter--which I also use--following someone makes a little more sense.

Re: Do you keep your drafts?

I don't tend to print drafts that often, but when I do, I keep them. When I finished my book, there was something special about actually holding it in my hands--even if I was just picking it up at FedEx Office. The electronic files (trying out Scrivener now--it's pretty cool) are where I do the bulk...

Re: Spelling matters... or not (An interesting study)

Every time I see something like this, I'm equal parts amazed at the capabilities of the human mind and horrified at what it means for our proofing abilities.

Re: Golden Rule of Social Networking? Don't Be A D*ck

I'm definitely sarcastic but try to keep it good-natured so as not to be abrasive (pointing out my own "awesome" characteristics from time to time helps). But either way, I agree 100%: Twitter or any other social media platform is no place to act like you're better than the people reading ...

Re: Golden Rule of Social Networking? Don't Be A D*ck

I write a theme-based Twitter (@KnowWhosAwesome), which kind of prohibits me from breaking character, so to speak, to thank someone for following or just giving me a nice retweet/mention. I've found the direct message tool to be really helpful in this regard, as it allows me to express my gratitude ...

Querying a Humor Project

Don't know if anyone here will find this helpful, but Guide to Literary Agents published a column late last week on querying a humor project: http://www.guidetoliteraryagents.com/blog/The+Art+Of+The+Query+Humor+Style.aspx Oh, and I may have written it. Unless you think it sucks. Then it was some oth...

Re: Do you have a new blog post?

I posted another installment in my weekly "You Know Who's Awesome?" series today: http://diningroomoffice.blogspot.com/2011/05/you-know-whos-awesome-clueless-play-by.html This week's subject: Clueless play-by-play announcers. (Yeah, "awesome" isn't a compliment here.) Incidentall...

Re: The Introduction Thread

Hey everyone-- Just joined the forums tonight and thought I should introduce myself first so my subsequent attempts at humor don't just result in awkward pauses. Actually, that'll probably still happen. Anyway, my name is Ted Fox, and I am indeed a humor writer. I signed with my agent about two mont...
