Me!!!!
I'm adamant to get my 50k and I won't stop until I eventually win (that's actually irrelevant since I don't think I'll ever NOT do Nano, win or lose)

Re: Rave about your Significant Other, Friends, or Family!

Well, my hubby has been very supportive with me wanting to revise my novel. He's left his old work notebook here at the house for a week now. I think he 'conveniently' forgets to take it back to work, so I can sit upstairs where it's nice and warm with the kids to do my writing, instead of logging a...

What inspired you to write in your genre?

My short story that sprouted forth when I put pen to paper for the first time at the age of 10 was a ghost story. But I've always been a pantser, so there was no outline or plot I was following when writing. I had no perception of genres. I've always been a horror-buff of sorts, my favourite cartoon...

Re: Writing Race

Pretty much what everyone else said, with emphasis on the topic of research. One of my novels (in the fantasy genre) has a very very wide range of cultures and races in it eg. my Baronians are inspired by black-skinned people, my Argiles are inspired by coloured people (we call them Capies back home...

Re: Where do characters come from?

Where do your characters come from? Do they spring from your fingertips out of nowhere, fully formed? Do you consciously "create" them to fulfill a specific purpose in the story? How much do you know about your characters when you first meet them? As a bit of a spin-off: how often do your...

Re: Article: Blogging bad idea for writers

I don't see Fanfiction.net as a self-publishing site because you can't make a dime off of what you put out. Your only reward are reviews, and sometimes even the reviews become monotonous and lose its charm. I think FF.net's sister site, FictionPress.net (I think, I might have the actual name wrong),...

Using a foreign language

Hi Nathan, I was just curious about this. I've seen writers use a few words in a different language in their work, whether it be Spanish or French or German, as a means for a sophisticated/foreign character to express themselves. Most of Europe and America are familiar with at least one of those lan...

Re: Our conversations start at 4 a.m. (Adult: Romance)

This is just my personal opinion, but I felt like I was reading the summary of chapter one rather than actually reading chapter one itself. Does that make sense? I don't really know how else to explain what I mean. And yes, I would be interested in reading more and getting to know the characters. LO...

Re: Your top-10 all-time favourite books

1.The Forbidden Game trilogy by L.J. Smith. Her antagonist was the muse that inspired and directed my own writing. I'm still a major fan of this trilogy. Not just for sentimental reasons. The antagonist really is the most awesome bad boy she has ever written. 2. The Nightworld series by L.J. Smith. ...

...our native language. What language do you speak natively in New Zealand? I've always wondered. Here in New Zealand the natives speak Maori. And luckily most of them are fluent in English, else I would be completely lost in dialect. But my native tongue I was referring to is Afrikaans, I'm origin...

Re: First Page of "Beyond the Paradise"

I agree with the agent about it being good writing. You set the right ambience for the story with the short sentences, and the whole piece reads well. The only question that popped into my mind is why was she afraid that the bouncer would change his mind? If she's on the list, he has no reason to de...

Re: What would you do?

I've written two chapters of a first draft of a novel. I've done a good bit of research and I like the direction for which I see it going. However, I just came up with an idea for a novel today that I think is fantastic. Of course, everything is shiny at the initial stage as I've done no research o...
