1. Sample edit.
2. Written agreement.
Thanks, Holly. Practical.
Also, I agree with people who caution about friends & colleagues. I also find that hiring people from your faith congregation can be bummer, if you're not happy with the result.

Re: First round of edits - a long way to go!
I was terrified by the edit process. Terrified by the idea of facing up to my imperfections, for one thing! And by the gargantuan task, for another thing. I did nothing for many months. Which is stressful, of course, because you're beating up on yourself for not doing any work. Then I did one new cha...

Re: The SQUEE GOOD NEWS Thread
Congrats., y'all! I was just thinking I might have to stop visiting Nathan & Rachelle. I dearly love both their blogs. They make you feel like one of the initiates. They create a virtual community of struggling writers--at various stages of the struggle. But all this stuff about all the obstacle...

Re: Where do you get your story ideas?
I wish I was as imaginative as you all! (Maybe I am & don't know it.) My ideas come from history. A real historical person starts to fascinate me--who they really were, what drove them, who they hung out with, etc. Not so much ideas, but images, come to me sometimes when I'm half-asleep and half...

I miss being part of a critique group. It helps keep me motivated. And the feedback is helpful.

Re: Proof of my Writerly Nerdhood
I'm not techhie enough to be a nerd.
I guess I might be weird, though. I talk to my dog and she answers in a funny high-pitched voice that sounds a bit like those funny housewives on Monty Python.
Keeps me off the streets, I guess. And great, though limited, practice for dialog.

Re: What Do You Write For?
Because my first-person narrator (in both WIP & WOBB--work on back burner) wants to tell his/her (respectively) story to the world.
And because, having found my God-given gift (so it seems, anyway), I need to use it and refine it.

Re: Do you work on more than one book at a time?
I can only really focus on one thing at a time. Otherwise I can't focus on anything. For a change of pace, I do sometimes pick up some background reading for my back-burner novel, which is in a completely different historical era from the WIP. And I sometimes think it would help to write some short ...

Re: Why I Don't Tell People I Write
When I started my blog (ibischild.blogspot.com), I not only had to tell the world that I write, but I also had to brag on myself a little (in the "About Me" section.) So now I'm really out there and exposed. But the whole thing of writing seriously is out there & exposed, sooner or lat...

Re: What Gender is Your Writing Style?
Cool! My opening paragraphs (a little over 100 words) came out male. And my narrator's male (and I'm female.) So that's reassuring! Interesting that prepositions indicating location, and forms of the verb "to be", are read as "male". And personal pronouns are read as "female...

Re: How Do I Become A Literary Agent?
I'm living in Luxor. (Moved to Egypt last Nov.) I know nothing about becoming a literary agent in Egypt. But I thought it might be interesting to be in touch. But you're probably in Cairo. What am I doing in Egypt? Working on revision of my novel. At least, that's what I'm supposed to be doing! Don'...

Re: Historical fiction critique partner needed
Hi, Rosepetal, I'm also doing historical fiction (mainstream--historical setting, to be precise.) I've finished the first draft, but really need to get stuck into revision. I think a critique partner would help me to get off my derriere & do something--as well as help improve my work, of course....
