Re: Fess up...who's a gamer?

Oh, there are definitely great games, but in my experience there are far fewer great games than in past generations. Only Twilight Princess and Red Dead Redemption spring to mind as games I would call "great". Some fun stuff, like Little Big Planet or Assassin's Creed II, but I wouldn't ca...

Re: Fess up...who's a gamer?

I've been playing video games since I was a little kid. My cousin gave us their NES + SNES when I was 3. Got a Sega Genesis when I was 5. Got an N64 when I was 7. Gamecube when I was 11. PS2 when I was 14. 360 when I was 15. PS3 + Wii when I was 16. Current generation (PS3/Wii/360) sucks. Still main...

Re: Whom do you write like?

I plugged in what I have of my latest WIP and it says Chuck Palahniuk. Then out of curiosity I grabbed the first complete story I wrote and typed in the whole first chapter and it said Stephen King. And now I'm really curious thanks to that Shakespeare comment, so, grabbing my latest blog post with ...

Re: World Cup!!!

If you want to watch football online, personally I use hostream.net and atdhe.net. You can also use VLC player if you get the addresses of the appropriate channels, and if you know which channels are playing what games, obviously.

Re: World Cup!!!

So who else is going through withdrawal? I've been kicking a stuffed soccer ball around the house while puffing on a little tin whistle. Tweet. Foul. Free kick. Off the lampshade. Eh, Liverpool's pre-season starts on Saturday, now that the heat is down I can play football with friends again, and I'...

Re: World Cup!!!

Fine result for the Spaniards. European champions two years ago, and now the greatest title of them all. Fine footballing nation finally getting the honours they deserve. Of course I would have loved to see the English in this, especially see them lift it, but I can't begrudge Spain any. The lads pl...

Re: competition may negatively affect creativity

Doesn't surprise me at all. I've found my writing ever since I started looking into publishing to be significantly weaker than my older stuff. In terms of form, it's a lot better. I'm older, more experienced. But the content itself just feels...empty comparatively. It's not even a case of fame or fo...

Re: World Cup!!!

Great game so far. Dutch are playing better, but not significantly so. Still believe Spain can win this. Round of 16 was won with a late-ish goal against Portugal after level at the half. Quarter final was won with a late goal against Paraguay after level at the half. Semifinal was won with a late-i...

Re: How'd you come up with that?

For me, they just pop into my head whilst I'm doing stuff. Most recent idea came into mind while I was playing poker. Sometimes I stumble upon something that sets the mind a-running, but usually I'm just cooking breakfast, or mucking stalls, or something and I start daydreaming and eventually my bra...

Re: East Coast Heatwave

It's not so bad yet (still very very hot) but it's supposed to break 100 here again. That makes four days of breaking 100 and it was in the upper 90s on Sunday. The weather is just whack this year. Blizzard in December. Three blizzards in February. Heat wave in July. What's next? Rampant tornados in...

Re: World Cup!!!

Of course, Germany are always a juggernaut (well, West Germany if you go back far enough; East Germany was a failure). But one thing the Spanish side were good at in the Euro 08 final and have been good at throughout this tournament is chiseling down defenses. Rather then just haphazardly break forw...

Re: World Cup!!!

Wow, surprised to see that Spain won. Anyone watch it? Did Germany miss Muller that much or was Spain that good? Really? I've been calling for Spain to the final since the get-go. Spain really are a brilliant side. And quite happy to see the final I've been calling for ever since England got taken ...

Re: World Cup!!!

Argentina crushed South Korea 4-1 this morning. And now the Greeks! 2-1 over Nigeria, with four minutes injury time to go. If Greece button down hard, this could be one of the finest days in the history of Greek football.

Re: World Cup!!!

I think the FIFA declared officially that they would not be banned. They can be a bit irritating, but I thought it rather cool once I'd learned what the sound was. It puts a local colour to this World Cup. :) My issue with them really is that it's interfering with the players. Alonso said at the Co...
