Re: What is your writing weakness? (Let's call this therapy)

I'm finding that my weakness is my writing website content. It's so different from writing fiction that I fear my fiction is going to suffer. Yikes! I've worked so hard to improve in that area that I want nothing to weaken it, but I do need the paycheck.

Re: Do you have a new blog post?

I posted last night about a new bookstore in St. Charles, MO. It's called Sage.
You can check out the post here:

I will be revisiting the store and bringing my camera very soon.

Re: Those ghastly -ly words

When I do a first draft, I use adverbs knowing that I will come back and get rid of them by using stronger verbs and showing more rather than telling. That first draft looks and sounds like an adverb factory exploded across each page. The point being to get the basic story written down before I forg...

Re: Too predictable or not at all?

Wow! I think I got my question answered today. I entered the ABNA contest and one of my Vine Reviewers went on and on about how predictable and old my story was. In fact, he (?) was kind of nasty about it. However, he proceeded to guess the wrong ending. He had a 5000 word excerpt to work from. (Alm...

Too predictable or not at all?

Nathan, I've written a novel, started querying and have had three requests for full manuscripts and two partials. Before I reached this point, I ran it through my writer's group twice and had ten beta readers. Of those ten betas, all of them attempted to predict the plot/outcome. Each told me along ...

Re: Writers' Butt

I did try sitting on an exercise ball. It did help my posture, but I have a bad back and it proved too strenuous to sit on it for long. I've also seen a base on wheels that I'm interested in trying. You place the ball on the base and can scoot around between your desk and the copier or whatever. I h...

Re: When to move on...

I love the first novel that I started and finished. I'm currently pitching queries and getting feedback on it, most of which is good, but not yet that sought-after yes. It was a story that haunted me until I wrote it. I'm glad I did and if it never gets published, I will be disappointed that I could...

Re: What is Dark?

My novel, MAN OF THE HOUSE, is dark. It's a story of a dark time (the Bosnian War) and the people who populate it. Their acts (for the most part) are dark, violent and oftentimes, disturbing because their actions are based on events that did happen. No thing, no where is darker or more violent than ...

Louise and Sommer,
Thanks for the advice. I'll keep plugging away and will incorporate your suggestions. Every time I post something here, I learn something new.

Re: Building a Platform

Thanks for checking out the website. I will add some links to the main page. I like the Papyrus font, but have had one other person complain that it's difficult to read. Do you have any suggestions for a name for the Blog?

Building a Platform

I started a website, www.TammySetzerDenton.com , last May where I posted an excerpt of my novel, MAN OF THE HOUSE. Since then, I've received more than 7100 hits. I started a Blog on that website this past week in order to strengthen my platform. However, I need some comments. Please visit and let me...

My real screen name is Transitoria666. It's a devilish/Spanglish mix for Passing Through Hell. Some days, it feels that way. Other days, not so much.

Re: Amazon Ads?

Received a reply from Amazon, and the answer is no. Unless I have a physical book to sell, they don't have a category for me. They were very prompt and cordial and asked it I wanted to be on a list to be informed if they make a change that would affect me. They did say that they have no future plans...

Amazon Ads?

Does anyone know if it's possible to take out an ad on Amazon for a not-yet-published novel? I am trying to be proactive and build a media platform for my novel, MAN OF THE HOUSE, before I start querying. I already have a thousand hits on the website, primarily from a Facebook ad, but I want more cl...

Re: MAN OF THE HOUSE - 1st Ch.- Critiques Anyone?

I grew up alongside a river, so I know for a fact that bodies float. As for the animal entrails, unless they are lungs, most will sink to the bottom fairly quickly. A really good rat primer is at the end of the Disney movie, Ratatouille. :) My book is dark, but is fiction based on fact. Wait until y...
