Re: How long do you take to finish a draft/ WIP?
I love reading about other people's writing journeys. Y'all's are so inspiring, whereas, my story is kind of obnoxious. I haven't been writing that long so I've been going at a frantic pace since 2010 trying to play catch up. My first WIP was written during that year's NaNoWrimo: approx 55k in 30 da...

I third Markus Zusak, and add John Green and Suzanne Collins for her hooks and pacing.

Re: National Novel Writing MAY
This is just what I need right now. So I'm in. My goals: - Finish outline for rewrite. - Write 30k of rewrite. (Hopefully, more than that... but May's going to be busy enough as it is. Can't wait till June.) - Polish query, blurb, logline, etc. 5/1: Didn't have time to write. Just tweaked the query ...

Re: Seeking advice on YA project
She could try some YA blogs like: YAtopia: http://yatopia.blogspot.com YA Confidential: http://yaconfidential.blogspot.com YA Highway: http://www.yahighway.com/ WriteOnCon: http://writeoncon.com/ The site isn't active right now, but during their August conference, the YA forums are the busiest. They...

How is it?
I can only get one right now and I can't decide between the book, the workbook or the other one... the Breakout Novelist.

Re: Endless Summer (of Polishing)
I also edit as I write and for each major edit, I make a new file going through the alphabet. Right now I'm on L. I'm glad I did it that way because it's interesting to line them up side by side and see how certain changes to the story or the backstory change the way the book flows from my original ...

Re: 250 Word Sharathon--post the opening of your WIP
Thank you all so very much for the responses. :D polymath: You're right, as always. Voice is something I struggle with in the first chapter. There are two MCs and each POV is narrated in a distinct voice since they are polar opposites. To start at a more compelling point, I felt I should use the mos...

Re: Camp NaNoWriMo!
Me too! And I'm at... 35449! :) It's crap, though. I've never written anything so rough. I'm completely pantsing it at this point and doing a terrible job, but hey, that's what rewrites are for. I've had a ridiculous time the past couple of days though. I keep going back to my July novel, wanting to...

Well, here goes nothing. This is my baby. Rip her to shreds while I cower over there in the corner. ________________________________________________________ Anika twirled her labret between the fingers of her barcoded hand. Through the passenger window, she scanned the area, noting the number of gua...

Congrats to those who won! And good luck to those still slogging away!
Is anyone participating in August's? Or planning on doing one in November? I need to add some friends to my list on the main site. My name is AveryMarsh. Super creative, no?

Re: 250 Word Sharathon--post the opening of your WIP
sierramcconnell and polymath: :D I'm having one of those days where I wish my manuscripts were printed out so I could throw them against the wall, the little nasties. Which brings me to an incredibly selfish question. What if we have multiple WIPs? Because I'd love some input on a rewritten to death...

Re: 250 Word Sharathon--post the opening of your WIP
I am so behind *shakes fists at July and August NaNos*... but here goes *takes a deep breath*: CharleeVale : You have such a way with visuals, taking me right there in the room with them, but there were bits that reminded me a little too much of the opening of Matched, which I think someone else may...
