Re: Ask Nathan

Nathan Just a reminder, I am very new to the submissions process. I sent my first out at the end of November. I just got a rejection after a request for the first five pages of my MS. The agent said that it didn't draw them in as they had hoped and that they were very busy and their reservations ab...

Re: How do you know your writing is good enough?

Thanks for the further comments guys. You made me lol choculagrl - that's exactly what I do! I read one thing and want to slash my wrists, then I read something else and think how the hell did this get published? I always take comfort in that fact that I can see how bad it is, so hopefully that tran...

Re: How do you know your writing is good enough?

Thanks for pointing that out Lorelei Armstrong. I simply replied to the poster before me who mentioned some well known examples of successful novels that were originally rejected. I am all too aware of the huge amount of writers who didn't 'make the cut'. I think some of us just like to look on the ...

Re: How do you know your writing is good enough?

Hi Erin

I found a great site (not sure if its ok to link here) but it lists certain stats like 'Chicken Soup for the Soul' being rejected 137 times and Stephen King getting so many rejections for Carrie that he threw it in the trash (his wife got it back out)!!

Re: How do you know your writing is good enough?

Marilyn - that's fabulous. It must be satisfying to hear that you have what it takes from someone who knows what they are talking about. Congratulations and good luck. You must be very excited. To the other responders - thank you for your input. I agree with many of the comments. Putting your work o...

Re: How do you know your writing is good enough?

Great - now I am paranoid that I have poor metacognitive skills lol! It is a fascinating article and I will read it in full later. Thanks To the other posters, thanks for the support. Confidence is a funny thing. I have this little fear that I could be totally deluding myself about my ability and th...

How do you know your writing is good enough?

I have a fairly substantial amount of E-pub experience and have 7 titles available (the royalties of a couple of these have made me eligible for RWA membership) but my most recent unpublished novel is the one I am hoping to obtain an agent for. My question is, how do you know if you've got what it t...

Re: Kilroy was here

This is a fab resource - especially for newbies like me who are doing the agent submission shuffle for the first time. It can be scary asking questions because you don't want to seem like a dope. The help and advice available here is invaluable.

I read pretty much anything and everything so the answer is yes but only by default.

Re: Ask Nathan

HI Nathan I read and agreed with your comments regarding Epublishing experience and whether to mention it or not. I do have one previous experience I wonder if I should mention in queries. Its an erotica short I submitted a couple of years ago. My first ever submission was accepted and included in a...
