Re: What's the Best and Worst Feedback You've Ever Gotten?
I don't think I can pinpoint a single best 'feedback,' because the way I work with my CPs, feedback is a process and not a one-time thing. But I like it when it helps me. My favourite critiquers do the first thing. Start off with praise/assessment of all the good stuff and highlighting what really w...

Re: Where have all the Review Bloggers gone?
I missed this topic when it surfaced several weeks ago, and I'll respond now. I'm a Book Review Blogger (Though Grad school has stopped me from posting since like September!) I don't do self-pubbed books (Unless I know the author personally) , and I'll tell you why. The amount of self-published auth...

Check out Books of Wonder!
Arguably one of the most famous children's book stores in the world. They have signings and events all the time, not to mention a fabulous little bakery inside where you can get cupcakes!

Re: The Coffee Shop - OCTOBER
I'm afraid Dystopian is almost certainly dead. In this last query run for me, I had 4 agents -- FOUR -- who loved my writing, and loved my story, but wouldn't sign me because the book was dystopian and they wanted me to write someone else.

I'm not sure if I'm in or not. I WANT to be in, but with grad school I don't know if it's possible. We'll see!

Writing under 'contract'
So as most of you know I'm working on my thesis which is a stage play. And I can say that this is my first dose of writing under contract and how hard it really is. Granted, I have things in my way that normal writers don't have (graduate classes, homework, and the like), but I think the experience ...

Re: The Coffee Shop - SEPTEMBER
So a lot of you know I've been working on my graduate thesis, which is a stage play. And it's the hardest [many expletives here] thing I've ever had to write. I really like my concept. It's just flowing like molasses. For whatever reason, the words don't pour out of my mind the way they do when I'm ...

Re: What makes a dystopia?
I actually asked one of the commenters, and finally got an answer! I wasn't far enough away from the material to see this, but I guess some of my phrasing, and the way I described the villain (Crime Boss/Ganster/Gambling lord) made it seem like the US government had collapsed and that he had risen i...

What makes a dystopia?
Ok, I'm admitting right away that this question comes out of frustration. The book I'm currently working on (Working title Bet Her Life , or BHL) is a YA Sci-fi Thriller. But I've had some problems, when I've posted excerpts, potential queries, etc. A lot have people have said 'Ooh, that sounds very...

So Grateful
I just wanted to take a sec and say that I am so grateful for you guys. I recently started to get involved lightly with another writing community, and in the 4 months I've been there, though I have made friends, I've had multiple incidents of drama, cattiness, rudeness, and just all-around unpleasan...

Re: Your first novel and other stuff
I've always found it easier to fix it later. To get it done, and then have the entire arc in your head so you can better see the changes. My first novel is still kind of unfinished. It rambled on and on and I kept chronically revising and never finishing it. I got through my second novel completely ...
