Re: When to move on...

Honestly, I write for the love of writing. I would love to write something publishable, but I don't spend a whole lot of time thinking about it. My brother gave me a lot of constructive critism. He was slightly harsh, but not mean. He pointed out as many positives as negatives...well almost. :) He w...

When to move on...

So I finished my first novel over a year ago and since then I've been working on a few other things as well as revising the completed novel. I finally worked up the nerve to let my brother read my latest draft. He gave me a ton of useful info, but then kind of said, "At some point you have to r...

really great plot ideas

Do you ever have one, start writing and then stop look back and wonder if you've read this before. Have you copied someone else's idea or have you just been thinking about it and planning for so long it seems too familiar as you write it?

Re: NaNoWriMo

Well, I have about a 1400 word rough outline ready and waiting. Sometimes I wonder if it's smart to set aside my current WIP to do something I will never look at again, but it's kind of fun.

Re: Gender roles: Emotionally weak heroines

I just read this thread start to finish. Great info. I think I'm going to run back to my WIP and make sure I like the way my FMC represents herself.

Re: How often do you read your manuscript?

I read it often enough to remind myself where I am in the story. Does that make sense?

My guess would be every 20,000 word or so...but probably more frequently at the beginning.

Re: Three Minute Fiction

Hmm...looks fun. I think I'll do it. I'll take any excuse to avoid editing my current WIP.

13 to Life by Shannon Delany.

I'm only a couple chapters in, but it's pretty good so far.

Re: Dealing with Perfectionism

My brother read somewhere that you have to write a million words before you become a good writer. Of course I'm sure it's not exactly true, some people will never be great and some people are great long before such an effort is made. I guess my point is just keep going. Who cares if it sucks and isn...

Re: Query: The Water in the River REVISED

If it helps--though of course you can write a query however you darn well please--romance queries are usually written with a focus on the hero and heroine. They go something like this: HEROINE'S PARAGRAPH: Her life. Her motivations. And then BAM, instigating circumstances that lead to... HERO'S PAR...

Re: Query: The Water in the River REVISED

Thanks Quill! How do you guys go about doing this? Should I start with a synopsis and then widdle it down? How much "mystery" do I leave in my query? Should I explain why the Fountain and the River go together? If I do, I reveal a chunk of the ending...but it is horrible for the reader to ...

Re: Query: The Water in the River

Here is my new draft using some of the suggestions...it just doesn't seem like I'm giving an accurate portayal of the story. I'm having a hard time doing it in 300 words. Dear…, Clara Herrington has always felt the Fox River speaking to her, she just didn’t know it. When she has irresistible urges t...

Re: Query: The Water in the River

Thanks. :) I really appreciate it.

I am not sure why this is so much more difficult than the story.

Off to try again...

Query: The Water in the River REVISED

I need help. I keep re-writing and coming up with the same thing. Do I need a little more, do I reveal a little more...do I quit and burn the thing? Dear…, Clara Herrington has always heard the river speaking; she just didn’t know it. Clara and Maggie haven't been friends for years, so when Maggie s...
