How have politics impacted your writing?

I recently surveyed my blog readers, and one of the things a lot of people said was to stop talking about politics. But there were also quite a few people who said you can't NOT talk about politics. I've seen so many authors complain about how distracting the political situation is right now and how...

Are you spending more or less time on social media?

I've seen a few different waves of online activity over the past ten years. At first there was a huge upswell in blogs -- everyone had a blog! Then people moved over to Facebook and Twitter. Now... where is everyone? Aside from politics Twitter, which seems super-active, where is everyone spending t...

Re: What are you listening to?

since i did a hundred books and a hundred movies, i felt the need to do a hundred songs, too. https://goo.gl/TQR6hN. i was scraping to find books, by the way; the movies list was a LOT easier. this one was a monumental pain in the ass; it took all day, and i'd to eliminate a LOT of REALLY good jams...

Re: Deal Announcement as Comp Title?

I would recommend against it - the reason to use comp titles for a novel isn't so much to prove there's a market for the book but to kind of place the concept in the agent's head in a smooth way. Since the agent isn't going to be particularly familiar with the book that just sold, I'm not sure it's ...

Re: How to meet agents at a conference?

I think the most important thing is to try not to force it. Being an agent at a conference is kind of like being a piece of cheese at a mouse convention, and agents tend to kind of have their guard up a tad.
