Re: Not Cool Enough for Social Networking?
You're taking no comments on a blog post to be a rejection of you as a person. By viewing your blog as a way to solve all your friend issues, you're setting yourself up for failure, because often you won't make friends via your blog. My advice is to turn comments off for a few months. Keep writing i...

Re: Hiring A Social Media Expert
I think the biggest use would be a teacher, to show you what you need to do and critique your social media presence. I don't think getting someone to send the messages for you is a good idea, as it makes your accounts impersonal. However, most people I've seen who claim to be social media experts ar...

Re: Is "sci fi" a poisonous label?
Some science fiction fans have a thing about calling it sci fi. So you're best off calling it science fiction in the query, as you don't know if the agent will be one of those. If they represent you, then you can point and laugh in a professional manner if they explode at the term sci fi. But no nee...

I use Twitter, Facebook and StumbleUpon of the ones you've listed. I don't have a LinkedIn account.

Janice Hardy (middle grade fantasy writer)

Juliette Wade (science fiction writer)

They both post on other stuff too, but look through the archives and you'll find a lot of post about the writing side of it.

Re: Could self-promotion through social media be a bad thing?
Again, I think promotion through social media is valid and a good idea, but I'd just be concerned about what I was promoting--me and my personality, or my work. Your worry seems to be that people will follow you because you're fun to be with, whilst ignoring your work. That hasn't been my experienc...

Re: Questions about blogspot.com
To get rid of email comments... 1. If you go to blogger.com whilst you're signed in, you should see your blog listed (this is the blogger dashboard). There are a number of links under your blog name such as comments, settings, stats, etc. Click on 'settings'. 2. You'll now have a screen where the se...

Re: As a reader how do you feel about this?
I don't mind if the antagonist gets away, but I do mind if the protagonist fails in every way. Harry may not defeat Voldemort at the end of every book, but he does succeed in stopping a small plot. Without any kind of success, you'd have trouble getting me to read more books. I don't want to read si...

Re: Do any of you other unpublished authors have websites?
I have a Blogger blog and a traditional website with my name as the domain (I built it myself). I'm not agented. I made it around the time I started submitting short stories. The biggest gain is it increases the chance of retaining people who find me. By that, I mean that if they read a story they l...

It's not a memoir. Beiber clarified that it's a photo diary thing of the leadup to his tour.

Re: Trend: the acknowledgments page
Sommer - too true! The cover artist never gets mentioned anywhere, except sometime on the author's personal blog to say, "I just got a look at the cover for my new book and boy, is it awesome!" Or something to that effect. Still, there's usually no name. Talk about being underappreciated....
