Re: The SQUEE GOOD NEWS Thread
Congrats Margo! That's AWESOME. But we already knew you were awesome, so can't say I'm surprised Although that doesn't make the news any less amazing!

Re: How did you think of your blog name?
True story: in college, my friend and I were thinking up fake band names for fun. "Maybe Genius" was one of my made-up band names. Years later, it's what I named my blog. It just seemed to fit the idea I was trying to convey at the time -- that I was an aspiring author who might have somet...

Re: The Dream Agent
I certainly agree that I didn't know which agent was the best fit for me until I spoke with them and heard what they had to say about my work and what, if any, changes they wanted to see. I definitely had an idea of agents who I thought it would be cool to work with based on their online personas an...

Re: Errrr.....Excuse me?
Try not to overthink it too much :) I had to nudge a few agents when I was querying, either because I needed to hear back within a certain timeframe or they'd told me I could contact them if I hadn't heard from them in X amount of time. Just keep it short, polite, and professional. "I'm emailin...

Re: How fast do you edit?
For me, it depends entirely on how much work I still need to do and what sort of editing I'm doing. Line edits? I can do an entire 70-80K word manuscript in about three days' worth of work. Developmental edits? A lot longer. It takes me maybe a week to make it through my manuscript with notes, and t...

Re: Rejection Stats
So, now that I've officially accepted an offer of representation, I feel comfortable posting my stats. The rejections stung a lot, of course, but I'm feeling pretty good about my numbers, I think. Queries sent: 30 Rejections on queries: 10 Requests for pages (partials or fulls): 16 Rejections on pag...

Re: The SQUEE GOOD NEWS Thread
So, I started querying exactly two months ago, and it's been kind of a whirlwind. And I am very, very, VERY happy to announce that I just accepted an offer of representation with Michelle Andelman of Regal Literary. I am beyond excited to start working with her. I felt like she really "got"...
