Re: YA/Fantasy/Science Fiction Crit Partner

Hey, I'd be willing to give being a critique partner a try if you're still interested in one. I'm writing a YA Paranormal and then I have one critique partner who is writing a YA Fantasy (not high fantasy though, more urban). Anyway, I haven't been on here in a while but, in the past, I have done a ...

Re: Shadows - First Chapter (Revised)

Thank you! Yeah, I've gone back and forth on that first line of the chapter so I may rework it to make it more dynamic. Yep, Kristin was supposed to be annoying though she does get a little redemption when you hear a bit more about her through her friend Ashley. I WAS hoping people wouldn't see the ...

Your title is a lot better than mine so that's fine. Thank you for the information! :)

How to Become an Agent/Find an Internship With an Agency?

Hi Nathan! I was wondering how to go about becoming a literary agent? I've been researching online and all the research I can find says, "be an intern". The ony problem is I can't find anything on HOW to go about becoming an intern. I'm sure blanketing agencies with unsolicited resumes wil...

Re: Shadows - First Chapter (Revised)

Thank you! My own low sense of confidence, and a nasty bout of perfectionism, were messing with my writing for a while but nice feedback like yours has been helping me to get back on track! :)

Re: I'm A Nobody, Revised shorter version after rejections

This is a good query, but I think you run a bit into the problem of knowing your own book to well. There were a few things thrown in that I'm sure you have reasons/connections for but, reading it as an outsider, I couldn't see them. Aside from those, however, I liked this and the idea is definitely ...

Re: QUERY- YA Mystery- Mad as a Hatter

Thank you for the help, everyone! - - - The year is 1882, and London is in a state of terror due to a string of brutal murders. Not the best way to enter the Yuletide season. When he was a child, a madman kidnapped fourteen-year-old Marquis Emil Aleric and his sister I agree, the construction here ...

Re: Dealing with Writer's ADD

I have a file on my computer (and many backups) that lists all my story ideas. Any time a new idea pops in my head I'll open the file and write down a summary, major characters that pop in my head, whatever. If I have a plot I'll write that down as well in as much detail as I feel like (you could ev...

Re: Query for The During Time, a work of women's fiction

I think you could put a genre of romance/science fiction on it. Women's fiction, as I understand it anyway, is more of a "female empowerment" type fiction where the protag is a woman whose showing she's boss and can trump the men - this is where you get the snarky female detectives for exa...

Re: Shadows - First Chapter (Revised)

Thank you! I actually ended up rewriting it, and the chapter that followed it, and posted that a little bit higher up on this page. I think it's better, and more cohesive, than the page was so I'm hoping people like it!

Re: Hi, my name is Regan and I’m stuck in a plot hole.

Why not just have them as a subset of humanity (and I mean subset as in a small group, not as in inferior in some way)? History is full of legends and myths concerning special people - psychics, magicians, shapechangers, those with superpowers of some kind, vampires, werewolves and so on and so on. ...

Re: Can TIME be the antagonist?

Isn't time regularly used as an antagonist? "You have 24 hours to come up with the ransom," "The bomb will go off in exactly six hours," "You have six months to live," etc. Do you mean you want Time as the ONLY antagonist? I suppose that could work if you personified TI...

Re: Shadows - First Chapter (Revised)

Yeah, I figured that's what it was, though I also figured I might have missed some things - I DID originally have four kids going in and, in writing the fourth kid out, I easily could have missed references to him (it's happened before). Yeah, I didn't establish Rick's age well enough. He's mid to l...

Re: Shadows - First Chapter (Revised)

There are actually three kids - Aaron, Kristin and Ashley. Rick is an adult hunter/teacher type and he doesn't go in with them. There were originally four kids but I found I didn't have a lot for the fourth one to do so I wrote him out. It's possible I left in a few references on accident so I'll lo...
