Multiple POVs in first person. help please.

Oh, look, here comes my daily WRITING CRISIS. Fun. Okay, here's my dilemma. I've just started a new novel (a YA spy novel) and as I go (I'm at the very beginning, only 3k into it), and though I really want to tell this book in first person, I'm thinking it might work better with multiple POVs. (Spec...

Re: First Five Pages (Contemporary YA)

THANK YOU EVERYONE!! Sorry about the dialogue breaks... it didn't format correctly when I posted to the thread. Thanks for struggling through it anyways. Grayson is 16 when the story takes place... I should probably find a place to make that clear. And I'll work on cutting some of the backstory; I'm...

First Five Pages (Contemporary YA)

Alright. I realized a few days ago that my story was starting about 3,000 words into the ms. ACK! My wordcount is down to 55k now (YA though, so it's okay), but I've switched up the beginning and would love to get some feedback on it. I just want to know if it works. If it's interesting. I don't exa...

Re: Rejection Stats

question: the manuscript box I found is kind of big, since they only asked for 50 pages and i'm afraid it will make me look careless. I know I'm suppose to send it out within the week, but should i try to find a smaller box for partials or just send it in the box I have? If it's 50 pages, they migh...

Re: the start of my story is 3,000 words in.

Thank you all. :)

Follow-up question: if one of the agents who currently has a partial asks for the full, should I send the revised version even though it'll be different from the partial, or would that be frowned upon/unprofessional?

the start of my story is 3,000 words in.

(i'm not sure if this should go here or in the 'finding an agent' forum - apologies if it's in the wrong place.) Three edits and thirty-five (sent) queries after finishing my novel, I think I've finally figured out where the beginning should be. Problem is, the place the story truly begins is two ch...

Re: Do agents really represent the author or the book?

I'm guessing the whole agent/love thing has to do with how much time the agent will end up spending with your book, especially if she/he is a hands-on agent who's going to be making editorial suggestions, etc. Also: agents are more like spokespeople for books than salespeople. You can lie to sell so...

Re: A couple of questions re: YA & queries

The name, in case anyone was wondering, is Grayson and someone thought that might be a problem with WILL GRAYSON, WILL GRAYSON coming out soon.

Re: PARTIAL REQUEST!!!! help please?

That's what I'm looking at now. Problem is, if I combine them then one chapter will be twice as long as the other two and it might read a bit awkwardly. I'm going to look at it though.

PARTIAL REQUEST!!!! help please?

YAAAAYYY!!!! Okay so I just got my second partial request for the novel I'm shopping and have a (possibly stupid) question: the agent wants me to send the first three chapters and I'm wondering how big of a no-no it is to send the first four instead? My novel is YA and the chapters are pretty short;...

Re: Meeting of the Waters - query request

Some quick thoughts off the top of my head. 1. What bearing do the 2016 Olympics have on your story? Am I missing this? 2. Definitely use the same name for Ale all the way through. 3. This looks to me like fantasy with sci-fi elements... I'd choose the genre you think it fits best (even if you're no...

Re: Query Help: Contemporary YA - Sitting on Rooftops

I think perhaps the problem is that some things are not clear in the summary of the story. If the cousins are reuniting at her grandparent's home - does that imply that before the death of her aunt and uncle they all stayed with her grandparents? No. Of course not, but it 's not clear. Why were the...

Re: Query Help: Contemporary YA - Sitting on Rooftops

Thanks to everyone who's given me advice so far. Hope you're not sick of me yet because here's take #whateverthisis and I still need critiques. :) --------------------- Dear Agent, Grayson was thirteen when her aunt and uncle died, leaving an emptiness that shattered the family. Before, Grayson and ...

Re: QUERY: A Measure of Disorder (YA Fantasy) REVISED AGAIN = )

I'm not so good at the line-by-line, but some suggestions/observations: 1. I'd start out with a stronger opening sentence/paragraph. Things get REALLY EXCITING when the class is whisked off to Mother and if you can find a way to open with that (instead of how normal and ordinary the girl is) that wo...
